Ready for Quiz #24?

Best of luck with this week’s artist, hope you Get Lucky!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)

For:

500 points…………………French duo, formed in Paris in 1993. Their debut album, Homework (1997), was a pretty big hit Around the World & is also on the 1001 list.

.

.

.

.

.

400 points……………….The electronic duo also got quite fortunate in 2013, with their hit album, Random Access Memories (whose cover font & overall design didn’t appear to be randomly chosen)

.

300 points……………………Among his many memorable videos, Spike Jonze directed the video for this duo’s 1997 instrumental track, as pictured below:

.

200 points………………..Two-word name: the first word is a British term for ‘silly’ or ‘foolish’ & the second word is the music genre popularized by groups like the Sex Pistols (or the missing word in the Clint Eastwood quote below)

.

100 points………………..The artist is D____ P____

Answer: So…my usual (English – Arabic) google translate system produced a comically vulgar result for today’s artist (Denis Leary’s hit song x 2).

So instead, perhaps I’ll skip the translation for this week & ask you to confirm your answers by searching for the ‘Random Access Memories‘ duo!

(Please post your points earned in the comments section)

Thanks for playing!

…..

Verbalize the Positive

I appreciate it when artists put effort into their music videos, as this duo definitely did!

500 please, high school French class paying off.

    • Thank you, Harrison – the next time students ask ‘why do we have to do high school French’ I can say, to earn 500 on a future quiz!

  2. 500. I find their name a little misleading.

  3. 400 and well that is surprising

  4. 500, I owned Discovery at the time

  5. ugh 200! Not a good showing whatsoever. Skidding down the charts now Geoff. lol

    • Not to worry, Deke (continuing the Cars vocab with ‘skidding’ too!) – perhaps this group’s albums weren’t among the tapes you bought at Sam the Record Man!

      • HAHA. I was trying to think back to my sisters collection but my memory stalled. lol

      • I remember that strategy worked with the Janet Jackson week!

      • Great memory Geoff. It did that week but not this week!
I have to be honest with your rating system! lol

      • I’m always impressed with the honesty of all the quiz participants – when people get a 0, they’ll often put a goose egg emoji when reporting the score!

      • I file that future reference. lol

  6. 400 for me. I didn’t know they were French. They don’t look French!!! 🙂

    • And I think I only learned that when I did a series of artists in different countries, they were one of the groups featured from France!

  7. 500…one more time!

  8. 500. I must have pick up that they are from France from somewhere.

    500. Thanks for throwing the ‘Around the World’ clue in there.

Cinq cent pour moi cette semaine. Merci.

  11. 200 today.

  12. 500 for me Geoff. C’est vrai.

  13. 500 for me. I can even pronounce their individual names!

  14. Mika and I are up all night to get 500 points each

  15. 500. As someone who has been living in France the past 9 years, if I didn’t get this straight off I’m sure I’d be deported!

  16. 500! I wrote a blog post today!

  17. I tried translating today’s artists into Bengali on Google Translate. Pretty hilarious! English translation would be “idiot useless/bad.”

    • Perhaps that’s why this artist chose their name – the ridiculous translation results when converted to/from other languages!
