Ready for Quiz #17?

Let Me (attempt to) Entertain You!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

I quite like Life Thru a Lens – especially Old Before I Die & Angels!

  1. 500. I used to work with one of his distant cousins.

  2. Harrison permalink

    300 please

  3. 300 and I just read about him as well

    • A well-timed reading, Neil!

      • I have been reading Merseybeast by Ian McNabb, the memoir of a mid level rock star the chap in question makes a cameo appearance, it’s not particularly flattering.

  4. 500. My mum had that album

  5. 500. Ditto kingcrimsonprog… mum, plus my sister and my girlfriend, all had that album.

  6. 500 for me. I really dig this guy. I have a number of his albums and trying to get all of them (none of his Take That stuff though).

  7. 200 Loaves of Bread please! Not too familiar at alll with this fella other than him scrapping with his neighbour Jimmy Page. I think it was him..

    • I wouldn’t be surprised if that had been him back in the day!
And speaking of delicious loaves of bread, do you think Sue would mind if I shared the article in a ‘Verbalize the Positive’ this week?

      • By all means share away Geoff. It’s a great story and I’m very proud of her.
        That would be awesome.

      • Fantastic! I love it when people like Sue quietly do these great things behind the scenes & it’s nice to see them be recognized for it

      • Thanks Geoff I’ll pass this onto her. Told her last night she deserved it.

    300. I’m slipping down the board.

  9. 500. You know I like this guy 🙂 One of my Record Store Tales was called The Ego Has Landed and it was, well, it was a Record Store Tale so you can imagine it was about musical discovery and working in retail!

  10. jprobichaud permalink

400 for me. Only know a few of his tracks.

  11. Almost ashamed to get 500 points this week!

    • I’ve had those trivia experiences, HMO – one time I somehow knew that Tom Cruise proposed to Katie Holmes at the Eiffel tower, but the points weren’t earned with pride!

  12. 200 this week.

  13. 300. I must have heard the name somewhere.

  14. 500 each for me and Mika.

  15. 500, he was brilliant, briefly.

    • Well done, Joe – in the spirit of ‘better to burn out than fade away,’ I wonder if it’s preferable to be briefly brilliant than to be consistently good?

      • It’s the rock ‘n roll way. I suspect accountants are the winners in the end.

  16. 500. I quite like “Better Man”.

    • A fine choice (and score), Amrita – my goodness, is he ever starting to look like Morrissey!

      • It will be a miracle if Morrissey is pleased by that comparison! Apparently, Kurt Cobain was trying to sing like Morrissey when Nirvana appeared on Top of the Pops. Wonder what Morrissey made of that!

      • I just saw the clip – that’s one way to protest having to mime playing the song live!

      • I came across it while watching the rather tragic actually live performance of Blue Monday by New Order on TOTP. Apparently, its sales always dropped whenever it was performed live!

      • What an unfortunate promotional effort – OK guys, the single is doing great, whatever you do, don’t play it live to promote it!

      • I don’t know if this link will show, but there’s this version of Blue Monday using obsolete 1930s instruments. It’s amazing.

  17. Sorry I missed this week; i would have gotten 400…
