Ready for Quiz #27?

What Would You Say!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

For:

500 points…………………American band, formed in Virginia in 1991. Although they don’t have any albums on the 1001 list, arguments could be made that a few of their albums, especially their 1994 debut album, as somewhat confusingly interpreted below, are all worthy of inclusion:

400 points……………….One of their big hits from that album (Under the Table and Dreaming), in the usual hastily assembled visual arts form. Please excuse the crudity of the image, the hats are supposed to be like those worn by musicians in a parade!

  1. 500! I had to turn on my computer to get it though – wasn’t big enough to see the words on my phone.

    • The first clue today with the small album cover photo felt a bit like the weekly 20 question quiz!

  2. 500 and I feel a little queasy, it’ll be alright though.

  3. 200 points. That was tough – I’m going for a nap under my table now.

  4. Nope. Nothing. It’s like this whole post was in a language I didn’t understand.

    • I hadn’t realized this may be one of those artists that was huge here but perhaps not all around the world – and looking back at the clues, they’re full of North American references!
Next week will be back to a more recognizable language, HMO!

    • Me too!!

      • The good news is, at the moment I don’t have any photo clues for next week – so there will be a sharp pendulum swing away from photo puzzles & back to actual knowledge of the artist!

      • It’s a conspiracy against your former imperial rulers.

      • This quiz was released uncomfortably close to Canada Day, wasn’t it!

      • I’m not going to cry ‘fake news’ at that.

  5. Nil, NADA, zilch, nothing please.

  6. 200. Never been a fan. Thankfully KITH bailed me out!

  7. 500. A band my staff used to enjoy and I didn’t mind either.

Some very strenuous moments netted me 100 points. But I agree with HMO. It’s all Greek to me

  9. 500 for me. Not a huge fan, but I guess enough of one to get 500.

  10. 500! Great album

    • I’m surprised they don’t have an album on the 1001 list – they had quite the run in the mid-90s!

  11. Zack permalink

    500. Now I want to skip a few seasons of Community to check out marching ants.

  12. jprobichaud permalink

    500. But only because I remembered the album cover from the dream bubble.

  13. 500. You dreaming of the debut album picture gave me all the help I needed to solve it. I also have the Everyday album. I Did It is a great track.

  14. Ah yes, I remember that name. 200.

  15. 500 each for Mika and me and I am appalled, sir, that none of the clues was about their bus dumping poop on tourists

  16. 200… I love the rebus clues!
(I am reminded of in Parks and Rec, when Andy tries to woo April away from her Venezuelan boyfriend at the beginning of Season 3, and they end up jamming over songs by this band instead!)

    • Not to worry, Amrita – I’m realizing this week’s clues had a significant Canada/North America slant, next week should be more universal. Though I just thought of a way to possibly include Keanu, so maybe still some Canadian content!

      • My memory seems to be really going. Or, I never really knew Keanu was Canadian! The Matthew Perry clue helped though, and him I know to be half Canadian. Has there ever been a Jim Carrey reference, because I practically grew up on his work😄!

      • I don’t think I’ve done any Jim Carrey references yet – which is surprising, as in 1994 (Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb & Dumber), I watched very little else!

      • I rewatched Truman Show recently. Almost seems normal now, in the age of vlogging. Still love the way he greeted everyone.

You have to do an Eternal Sunshine reference at some point!

      • and in case I don’t see you, Good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight!

  17. Love that photo at 500! Haha awesome. 500 for me, I bought that album the week of release. Still essential listening.
