Ready for Quiz #28?

Sit Yourself Down!

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Artist of the Week #28
Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)

500 points…………………American musician, born in Dallas, Texas in 1945. He appears on the 1001 list a few times in a few different capacities:

a) as a solo artist (whose debut album cover, according to the wikipedia image caption, features him “sitting outside in the snow and playing a guitar, with a toy giraffe nearby”)

b) as a member of a short-lived, early ’70s band that was named after a city in Virginia (the location of the First & Second Battles of Bull Run)

c) as a member of a sometimes trio / sometimes quartet, whose second album name is referenced when there is a glitch in The Matrix…

400 points……………….Curiously, all of the aforementioned acts affiliated with this artist released self-titled albums: his trio’s eponymous debut (without Neil Young, in 1969), his solo debut (1970), and his band (Manassas)’s debut (1972). Talk about Déjà Vu!

300 points……………………He is the ‘S’ in CSNY

200 points………………..His first name is the same as this quiz-maker’s last name; his last name would be the same as ‘multiple static photographs’

100 points………………..The artist is S_________ S_______

Answer: ستيفن ستيلز

(Please post your points earned in the comments section)

Thanks for playing!

  1. 500. Got it from the little teaser at the top!

    • I can’t always promise a teaser clue – but I’m happy to hear it helps from time to time, Graham!

  2. Fabulous clues Geoff.
I enjoy it when the first clue has enough stuff in it to launch an answer after some thought. In this case, correctly!

    • My thanks, Bruce – I looked back at my first ever quiz recently (Brian Eno) and there was next to no information in the 500 clue. The pendulum has swung in the opposite direction on weeks like this one!

  3. Harrison permalink

    Nope, no clue

  4. 500 points from an educated guess. 1 in 4 chance of getting it right but the toy giraffe rang a bell.

  5. got the band at 400, but not the person until 300…so 300 for me.

  6. 300 the same way as Mr. Snow figured it out!

  7. 400 for me please Geoff.

  8. Hoo! I got 500!

  9. 500! The “Giraffe album” is on my want list.

    • It’s a good one – I am sad to say I didn’t invest in the used LP for $5 when I had the chance. Don’t make the same mistake I did, Kevin!

  10. jprobichaud permalink

I almost had it with the first clue, but it took the second clue to confirm it. 400 for me this week.

  11. 300. I had the right band but wrong member at 500.

  12. 400! (Marrakech Express is the song that I listen to on my daily train rides!)

  13. 500 for the giraffe

  14. Got it for 300 points.

  15. Hello! 400 for me, Geoff.

  16. 300 each for me and Mika.

  17. 400. The mighty fall 😦

  18. 500. Clue a) helped!
