Ready for Quiz #39?
Can you feel it, see it, hear it today?!
.
Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)
Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.
Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.
After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.
Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.
I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.
In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.
In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.
Here goes!

Artist of the Week #39
Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)
For:
500 points…………………American (rock? funk metal? experimental?) band, formed in California (and it is not the Red Hot Chili Peppers). Their 1989 album, The Real Thing, is on the 1001 list…
.
.
.
.
.
400 points…………………and that album was the first to feature vocalist Mike Patton. It also featured the hit song, Epic, which would later appear on the ‘Rock Band’ video game.
(a bit of a stretch, but if you were to use an online translator to translate the band name back and forth a few times in another language, you might end up with an imperfect translation result of ‘done with religion’)
.
.
.
.
.
300 points……………………The band name is the SAME as the puzzle below:
.
.
.
.
.
200 points………………..The band name is the OPPOSITE of the puzzle below:
.
.
.
.
.
100 points………………..The artist is F______ N__ M_____

500. There’s a great quote where the frontman says he can shake his booty fresher than Anthony Kiedis.
I suppose more fresh is better in such a contest?!
“I think Anthony, deep down, feels like I’m a better dancer than he is. I think I shake my booty just a little bit fresher than he does. And if he would stop doing drugs I think he could out-dance me.”
That one song, Epic, is (I think) the only one I really know by this band so it was lucky for me that your first clue started with that album. 500 for me.
Sometimes, one song is all it takes on these quizzes – nice work, JP!
500. Saw them on The Real Thing tour – amazing gig amazing album, plus the follow up. The album before TRT is worth checking out too, with the original singer.
I’ve heard the follow-up is both eclectic and excellent – nice work, TVTA!
500 🙂
excellent work, Jimmy!
300 please
will do, Harrison!
Yeah, back on top with a 500. I needed that after last week’s disappointing result.
What a way to bounce back, John!
500 smackers as this act was the opener on the Guns/Metallica 92 tour…
That would have been quite the hat trick of sets!
One of the last big stadium tours of two huge bands co headlining together.
Axl should have put his ego aside and let Metallica play second as there is not to many bands that could compete with that upbeat tempo for 2 hours!
Guns couldn’t as they had two keyboardists and 3 female horn players! lol
Metallica was a 5 piece as Hetfield burnt his arm in that pyro accident in Montreal a few weeks before and could not play guitar.
Cool to have seen..
Alas, putting egos aside doesn’t seem to be a typical strength of rock stars!
It would be neat to see those tours where something went wrong (like Metallica’s 5 piece you mentioned) – I think Dave Grohl broke his leg on a tour & had to play a bunch of foo fighters shows seated on a throne, would have been fun to see that unique tour!
Kudos to Grohl as he could have cancelled but as Queen said ‘The Show Must Go On”
500! I have the same amount of difficulty describing this band as you did in the first clue.
I imagine most bands would appreciate that, being a genre unto themselves!
Coincidently enough, that is part of my theme for today’s review!
I’d like to think such a coincidence is great minds thinking alike, rather than fools seldom differing!
I don’t know this name but I’m ok with word clues. 200.
Well done on the antonym clue, D!
300. Thank you for the clues!
Any time, Amrita!
Hi Geoff, just remembered today is your birthday. Happy Birthday!!!🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 Do you have Instagram or Twitter? My twitter handle is @AmritaSarkar6
Much appreciated, Amrita!
It was a nice day – I have a twitter account that I use infrequently, facebook would be the social media I’d use other than wordpress. geoff.stephen.1 if you’re ever on there!
500. One of the best bands ever.
Excellent work, Zack!
400!
Nice, Sarca!
500 for me, 400 for Mika.
So, a household average of 450 this week then?
I don’t think that would be fair, this week. Most weeks, yes. But not this week.
200 because well I’m not very familiar with the band
I’m pleased you’re familiar with your antonyms though, Neil!
500 from out of nowhere, please Geoff.
That score is The Real Thing, Joe!
(working on Woodpecker From Mars joke)
300 — I am a big fan of your rebus clues!! I don’t know much about this band, but the first guitar solo I ever learnt was from their version of ‘Easy’!
Cheers, Adela – I think my first attempted guitar solo might have been Oasis’ Supersonic, likely emphasis on attempted!
Almost forgot to check in this week. What is it? A band I have a cool review of, the deluxe debut coming soon to a WordPress near you!
You want it all…and you Can have/grab the 500 points, Mike!
Funny enough, I just found a guitar TAB book of that debut album this week. 500.
A well-timed find!
