Artist of the Week IV – Quiz #1

Exceptional Artist of the Week IV Series logo by Sarca @ caughtmegaming
My thanks to all who have participated in the “Artist of the Week” quizzes in previous years.
This year, I’m excited to be hosting quizzes once again, to be published every Sunday morning at 12:01 a.m. E.S.T.
Welcome back to returning participants, welcome to new friends!
And my humongous thanks to Sarca for creating another exemplary logo to introduce this year’s series, Artist of the Week IV!
.
Ready for Quiz #1?
Show me, show me, show me!
.
Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)
Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.
Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.
After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.
Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.
I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.
In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.
In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.
Here goes!

Verbalize the Positive
It was a tough week for google translate – so the translation is for the song referenced in the 500 clue.
A practically perfect tune!

500. I’ve never heard of that movie, so glad it wasn’t the first clue.
I think it’s slightly more obscure than his other mid-90s film, Jurassic Park!
I had it with the first clue but read the rest because I love this band so much. 500… and keep it close to me.
Now it’s opening time, down on…the wordpress quizzes & I’m pleased you had such a strong start!
500 each for me and Mika.
Nice 2020 start, Mika & James!
500 and so happy to see this back.
Cheers, Neil – and welcome back!
500. I’ve often wondered if he has to really concentrate to make his lipstick look so badly applied, or does he just slap it on anyoldhow. I mean, is it the same shape every time? Has anyone checked? C’mon!
Or the hairstyle? Does he spend hours making it look strategically messy?!
In the “Mint Car” video, he immediately licks his lips following application and messes it up, so that might be how he usually does it! I did read somewhere (and this might be a bit too geeky), he’s used a MAC lipstick 90s onwards. That hairstyle does take hours to look that way, though unlike other people who were around in the 80s, he still has a good head of hair!
Geekiness is encouraged around here, Amrita, not to worry. And I quite like the line in strange attraction where the character asks, can I use some of your lipstick? Now I know to have MAC lipstick on hand in case Robert ever asks!
500
Nice start, Jimmy!
500!
Exemplary work, Sarca – both on the quiz score & the quiz logo!
500 please. Top band. Thanks for bringing the quiz back 🙂
My pleasure, TVTA – and agreed, what a band!
Show Me Show Me Show Me 500 points please!
and I’ll promise you, I’ll promise that…I’ll add 500 points to the spreadsheet, Zack!
500, as one may expect!
Fabulous start to the year, Adela!
500 as the name drop help[ed in the first clue. As well I worked with a fella who loved Iron Maiden and The Cure! How’s that for a mash-up? Nice to start the new year out of the gate with 500.
Back to work tomorrow so I Got Friday On My Mind!
Give Sarca 5000 points for the throwback Blaster Logo!
Brilliant!
That sounds like my kinds of fellow to work with, Deke!
And yes – there most definitely should be ‘graphic designer’ bonus points, Sarca created another gem!
500 for me. The only member in the band I can name is the lead singer (as with most bands). The new logo looks awesome!!
They’ve got a really good bass player (Simon Gallup) – his basslines are like a 2nd melody in many of the tunes.
And agreed, another awesome Sarca creation!
I think I knew that name as I have heard it before…but wouldn’t have been able to tell you he was in this band.
New Years Resolution (I Hope) – Not to miss any more quizzes.
500 — a band I need to explore more, actually. Recommend a good solid greatest hits for a first one?
That’s a fine goal for 2020 – and there are actually a pair of good compilations.
‘Staring at the Sea’ covers the first decade or so and then ‘Galore’ does a nice job on the next phase!
Sounds like a do-it-yourself 2 CD set to me! I might start with Galore as a lot of that is the most familiar to me.
It’s my favourite era for the group – enjoy!
Sounds like I have chosen wisely! I thank you for your sage advice good sir! Have a Timmy’s on me! (I made a Tim’s run at 6:30 am, came home, banged out 1459 words, and now I’m going to finish my coffee!)
That’s a productive start to the day – nice work!
Thank you sir!
Welp, Sarah had to tell me the answer. A big fat goose egg to start off the year!
Not to worry, Kevin – I haven’t done ACDC yet in the quizzes. I expect when I inevitably get to them, you’ll have the answer before I finish the first sentence!
Oh no! Now the pressure is on! 😀
500 please. Although it’s never enough.
Those 500 points are so wonderfully, wonderfully, wonderfully, wonderfully pretty, Steve!
Right here goes… 500. Off to a flyer!
Outstanding start, HMO – and *spoiler alert* there will be a quiz at some point in the next couple of months that is dedicated to you!
Ooh. How many artists are left in the 1001 that you haven’t covered yet?
The 1001 artists are getting increasingly obscure, so I’ll be including some non-1001 people on the quizzes this year – but some 1001 metal ones too!
Oh. My. God. I can’t believe you finally featured them on the quiz! Does that mean you’ll be reviewing them too? Happy New Year, Geoff! This start to the year is Just Like Heaven! I “wish” if only, if only, I might score 600 points.
It took until year #4 – but now the sun is up & I’m so happy I could scream, Amrita!
I almost can’t believe it’s for real: you finally writing about them! That’s a great t-shirt, btw. I’ve seen another brilliant “calendar”. I’ll see if I can get the link to it.
That sounds promising!

These calendar images are spectacular, Amrita! They ended up in the ‘spam’ folder (I’m guessing because they’re links) so I’m just seeing them now. Worth the wait!
I’ve often thought of printing them out and pasting them on my wall. Way better than an actual calendar, lol (pun intended 😉). I also saw these cloth dolls of Robert and Simon, only artists I can think of other than The Beatles who might still be appealing in doll form! Did you read Lol Tollhurst’s autobiography?
I have not – yet!

500! A great start to the season
Tremendous start, D!
500 please Geoff, as I am so wonderfully, wonderfully pretty.
Oh you know that I’d do anything for you (including recording the points correctly in the spreadsheet), Joe!
Hurrah for quiz IV! 500 points for me please Geoff!
Done and done, J – hurrah to perfect scores!
Almost missed this. 200 Please.
Sounds good – will add to next week’s!
500 but really not a fan. Saw them in concert at a festival and left after two songs. Still, fair play to all the fans.
promising start!
