Ready for Quiz #11?

It’s go time!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Artist of the Week #11
Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)

For:

500 points………………..Although this American band is originally from Rockford, Illinois, their late-70s live album was recorded about as far away as possible from The Prairie State (at a venue named Budokan in Tokyo, Japan)

.

.

.

.

.

400 points………………..In their song, I Want You to Want Me, drummer Bun E. Carlos plays a relatively long kick+snare drum intro for a pop tune…before the rest of the band kicked in, perhaps he was Feelin’ all alone without a friend, You know (he felt) like dyin’ dyin’, dyin’?

.

.

.

.

.

300 points……………….In The Fellowship of The Ring, this band is (unintentionally?) name-checked by Gandalf the Gray…

Untitled presentation (19)

.

.

.

.

.

200 points……………….. Two-word band name, the first is a synonym for inexpensive; the second is what Arrested Development’s G.O.B. insists should be called an ‘illusion’

.

.

.

.

.

100 points………………..The artist is C______ T_______

.

.

Cheers to 2loud2oldmusic’s recent memes post & Deke’s recent Heaven Tonight post that reminded me to include this group in the quizzes!

Yes! Back to winning ways. 500 Please.

  2. Thanks for the share Kind Sir! I knew there was reason to stay up past midnight!
500 smackers and that is no Trick!

  3. 500. Love Dream Police.

  4. A cheap 500 there, and thanks

  5. Their live Budokan release beat Dylan’s to the shelves by six months.
    500 please.

    • I have yet to hear Dylan’s (wasn’t actually aware of it) – I’m lucky I indicated ‘band’ rather than the more ambiguous ‘artist’ in the first clue!

  6. Hello There. It was the Budokan clue that surrendered 500 points to me. Come on Come on!

    • Terrific work Steve – alas, by earning a perfect score, I wasn’t able to reply ain’t that a shame about any missed points. Ain’t that a shame!

  7. 500. I needed a cup of tea and a long think but it rose to the surface of my swampy memory eventually.

    • If I were participating in these quizzes, that is precisely what I would do as well – read the 500 clue, ponder over a beverage before moving on. I’m pleased that strategy worked today!

  8. 500 please. I’ve modelled my own look on the drummer’s.

  9. Excellent! I’ll have another 500 points please!

    500!

  11. Ah 200! Clocked the name of the 500 clue but forgot the band!

  12. Stop this game. I got 500. (and a LOL at the Gandalf question!)

  13. 200 this week.

I really bit it on this one. A measly 200. Don’t know this band at all.

  15. 400. Have you heard the Spanish version of I want you to want me? It was an unlikely number 1 in Mexico. Here’s a link https://youtu.be/fKZAWvs9qpY

  16. 500. I saw these guys in concert ages ago because Iggy Pop couldn’t make it. True story!

    • That’s not a bad plan B for a show!

      • Yeah it really wasn’t all that bad. That was in 1998 at Mosport, and there were two stages.

        Stage 1:

        All Systems Go (formerly Doughboys)
        Hayden
        Matthew Good Band
        Cracker

        Stage 2:

Iggy Pop cancelled, therefore Cheap Trick
        Pearl Jam

        A great night.

      • Both stages look promising!

  17. I’ll take the 500 I earned but you deserve some points for the AR reference.

    • Much appreciated Kevin – G.O.B. is such a terrific character!

      • I just noticed I have a blank for Aretha Franklin but I should have 400. My comment isn’t on the post so I think the WordPress app screwed up. No worries if it is too late to change it. Lesson learned. Never use that stupid app to leave a comment.

      • Not to worry Kevin – it shall be added for next week!

  18. 400 for me this week

  19. 500 apiece for me and Mika

  20. A Tricky one for 500

  21. My sis got tix!
