Ready for Quiz #32?

I need to know!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Artist of the Week #32
Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)

For:

500 points………………..American artist (born October 1950, died October 2017), he was involved in multiple films in the 1990s, including as an actor in the 1997 film, The Postman:

Untitled presentation (30)

.

.

.

.

.

400 points……………….He also wrote the soundtrack to the 1996 film, She’s The One. The soundtrack featured the song Walls & also featured his backup band, whom the French might call, Les Briseurs de Coeurs

.

.

.

.

.

300 points……………….Though it was a new song added to his splendid 1993 Greatest Hits compilation, perhaps fittingly, Mary Jane’s Last Dance went on to become one of his greatest hits

.

.

.

.

.

200 points………………..He shares a first name with the Mission Impossible actor Cruise & his last name is an adjective meaning trivial/unimportant (which would be a wildly inaccurate description of his fine music!)

.

.

.

.

.

100 points………………..The artist is T__ P_____ (and The Heartbreakers)

.

.

.

.

.

Answer: توم بيت إي

(Please post your points earned in the comments section)

100 please, I had someone else in mind at 500 and sadly it was not the case

    • Not to worry Harrison, I’m pleased you got this artist by 100!

      • Harrison permalink

If you’re curious, David Bowie was my first guess, the acting fit and the timeframe seemed right

  2. 500! Luckily my score isn’t free fallin’

  3. 500 points and you don’t know how that feels really you don’t.

    400. Forgot he was in the Postman. I definitely remember him from a lesser know film called Made in Heaven though,

    • I’m not familiar – may have to see it!

      • jprobichaud permalink

You may not find it. And if you do, it may not be worth your searching. I have a feeling that’s probably one of those that I thought was great back in the day but upon revisiting, realized that it wasn’t so good. Some great cameos though, as I recall.

  5. 500 for me, 400 for Mika and she’s REAL mad she didn’t get it right away

  6. Zack permalink

    500.

  7. Totally couldn’t get it with those first two clues and then kicked myself when I did. 300 for me!!

  8. Runnin down 300 Points! Man those first two questions stumped me haha
Well Played! You must be ramping up for School!

    • I saw a post saying for teachers, August is just one long Sunday night. So to change one of his tunes, I Do Know How it Feels!

      • So let’s get to the point time to roll another joint

  9. 500. God it was so painful, a clue that was so close, still thankfully not far out of reach. No allusion to the supergroup?

    • I think I did an allusion when George was the artist of the week – I imagine I’ll do one if ELO is the artist some week!
      Nice work Amrita!

  10. 400 today. I forgot the appearance in the Postman.

  11. Although I never saw The Postman I was able to get 500 this week based on the birth/death info provided in the first clue. Enjoyed the other clues as well.

  12. 200 please.

  13. The film clues are mostly a mystery to me, Geoff. But sadly, I clearly remember when the person in question checked out. So a sad 500 for a terrific artist.

  14. 500! Also the soundtrack for STO at 400 is amazing.

  15. 500! He was great on King of the Hill as well!

    • I’ll have to see that episode!

      • He played a recurring character, “Lucky”. He earned his name by winning a “settlement” after “slipping on some pee pee at the Costco.” It is quite hilarious.

  16. 400. Had no idea about the 500 question!
