.

My thanks to all who have participated in the “Artist of the Week” quizzes over the past two years.

This year, I’m excited to be hosting quizzes once again, to be published every Sunday morning at 12:01 a.m. E.S.T.

Welcome back to returning participants, welcome to new friends!

And my humongous thanks to Sarca for creating another exemplary logo to introduce this year’s series, Artist of the Week III!

.

Ready for Quiz #1?

To quote Brad Roberts in the Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead, let’s begin!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Verbalize the Positive

Perhaps my favourite show growing up was a weekly show named, Hockey Week,

In one episode, they asked players to name the members of the Fab 4.

And I remember being so impressed with Brendan Shanahan that he knew all 4 – and in 2019, I’m quite pleased that the clip still exists!

  1. Truly the dark horse…

  2. Damn thats 500 points got so excited at seeing the quiz back…

  3. 500. Would have been interesting to see if anyone would have got it from the first five words.

    • That would have been a good bonus marks question!
There was a great Seinfeld episode where they couldn’t remember the name of the 3rd Tenor: Pavarotti, Domingo, and…the other guy. I’m afraid this week’s artist is that other guy for many!

  4. Been living his his material world recently. 500.

  5. 500. I’m on a roll!

  6. 500. Happy New Year!

    • And a happy new year to you Amrita – fabulous score to start 2019 too!

      • I would have been highly disappointed if I didn’t get it. He introduced me to the travelling wilburys in the first place! I would have jumped if there was a Monty Python clue. How many rockstars act in their own parody films?

      • I admire those that have a sense of humour like that!

      • He had a great sense of humour! You should see his Dick Cavett show interview. Absolutely classic. On a more serious note, his charity concert in 1971 was the first of its kind, if I remember correctly. A thoroughly decent human being that could always bring people together.

  7. A good start this year with 500 points. I’m tied for the lead 🙂

  8. Had to rack my brain for a bit but… 500! Off to a flyer.

  9. 500 please. A quiet one to start

    300. I’m embarrassed I didn’t do better.

  11. I can’t believe I spaced on the first clue. 400 for me. I totally forgot him just like the clue says.

    • I think you’ll be in good company with that reaction this morning John – he’s one of those artists that slips under the radar!

I skimmed the first clue and thought ‘Hey, why isn’t …… there’ Oh I see – 500 points. “My oh my, don’t it make you want to cry, oh?” to quote Andy Partridge at the end of Peter P.

  13. 500 please.

  14. 500 Tweets for the Monkey Man!

  15. 200 – great to see these are carrying on into 2019!!

  16. OK fresh start. 500.

  17. jprobichaud permalink

A cool 500 for me to start things off in 2019. Unbelievably, I actually know the members of The Travelling Wilburys.

  18. I get 500. I think I could have only named some of the other Wilburys.

  19. 500! I would have had to gently weep myself to sleep tonight if I could not have gotten this one!

  20. Haha the forgotten Wilbury, and I immediately thought it was gonna be Jeff Lynne (sorry Jeff). But then I saw his name listed, so that wasn’t it. So then I just went through the rest and nailed it at 500 but, forgotten? Really? 😉

  21. Also, full marks to the illustrious Sarca on the new artwork!

  22. Also, hooray for a new year of Sunday morning quiz!

  23. 500 each for Mika and me

  24. 400. I didn’t even know he was in the Traveling Wilburys! He’s my favorite Beatle though.

  25. 500, a good start! (And very much enjoyed by someone whose blog is named for this artist’s most famous band!)

  26. Harrison permalink

400 please. A surprisingly decent start from someone born in 1999

  27. This retuning participant is claiming 500 of those points, Geoff!

    • Welcome back returning participant, J!
I made the spreadsheet for Sunday last night – so I solemnly swear the points will be added to next week’s
