Ready for Quiz #14?

Magnifique!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

400 points………………..Classic scene from Flight of the Conchords:

Murray: I’ve told you. When you are in a band, you don’t get with your bandmate’s girlfriend. Past or present.
Jemaine: Yes, well, thanks for that.
Murray: You get a love triangle, you know, a (____this group name_____) situation. Although there was four of them, so more of a love square. But you know, no-one gets on.
Jemaine: Ok, I see.
Murray: Mind you, they did make some of their best music back then.
Bret: Rumours?
Murray: No. No, it’s all true.

Verbalize the Positive

Rumours was their 11th studio album – amazing to see a group hit its commercial peak at that stage of their career!

  1. 500. A Facebook friend posted this week that Gypsy is their best song, but it’s my number 4.

  2. 500. Prefer the album preceding rumours, over the rather bloated tusk, but that’s probably an unpopular opinion. Rhiannon though…

  3. Harrison permalink

500 please. Parents’ music tastes come in handy sometimes

    • Harrison permalink

oh and Go Your Own Way has one of the best guitar solos put to tape. Tusk (the song) rules.

    • This would be one of those weeks for sure – nice work Harrison/Harrison’s parents!

  4. 500. The band that perhaps more than any other flung me into the grateful arms of punk rock.

  5. Oh well. 500 for me.

    • I remember you talking about a box set of albums 3-6 or so from this artist – I keep meaning to check out their late 60s/early 70s work!

      • Yeah I think there was a vinyl set. Never got it though. Got loads of the Peter Green stuff though, that’s all great.

  6. 400. Not the concords, but the last sentence.

  7. 500 No Questions Asked. Big Love Stephen1001 I coulda been Over My Head but this was a Landslide that Don’t Stop. I’m Over My Head with these Songbird references Everywhere. You could Go Insane trying to spot these Seven Wonders forming The Chain where the Skies The Limit… That’s It! go Your Own Way. I’m Second Hand News today.

  8. 300 for me.

  9. 500 and finally. Classic band.

  10. Zack permalink

    500 today!

  11. Time for a Big Mac and 500 smackers after a two week slump which is over!

  12. jprobichaud permalink

Mark me down for 500 this week.

  13. 500, perhaps a bit easy this week?

    • It’s funny – even in the 3rd year, I have no perspective on what is easy vs. difficult.

Some weeks I think I’m gift-wrapping the answer & it’s a low-scoring week all around, others I think the 500 clue is too obscure and it’s almost unanimously perfect scores.

The good news is – I’m pleased you earned the perfect score this week either way!

I’m so far down the leader board that I’ve decided to award myself 600 if I get the band without looking at the clues.
Ok, so it wasn’t “Alberto y los trios paranoias” this time – so only 500.

  15. 500 each for Mika and me

  16. 500 please.

  17. OK, back and commenting on a reliable PC. None of this phone business where comments end up in limbo. With that said…. 500, baby! Good thing I’m a fan of those early blues years.

  18. 500 tipped off by member name. Woot!

  19. Late playing along (again), but I do like these, so I’m joining in… 500 on this one. That’s what happens when you spend time listening to a certain album the last couple of weeks!
