Ready for Quiz #27?

Take it or Leave it!

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Artist of the Week #27
Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)

500 points………………..New York City rock band, whose song about New York City Cops was eventually removed from their debut CD running order after September 11th, 2001 (the band name was also featured on Shia Laboeuf’s t-shirt in the 2007 film, Transformers)

400 points……………….that 2001 debut album, Is this it?, is on the 1001 list…and its popular single, Last Nite, is a great example of how to play a ‘C Octave’ repeatedly on a guitar!

300 points……………….The band name is a synonym for ‘shots’ in golf (or used to describe different types of competitive swimming styles)

200 points………………..On a more serious note, the acronym FAST is used to help determine if someone may be having this:

100 points………………..The artist is The S_______s

Answer: السكتات الدماغية

(Please post your points earned in the comments section)

Thanks for playing!

Verbalize the Positive

I quite like Last Nite‘s simple yet effective layered intro!

  1. 500. Not really a big fan though – feel like the 1970s source material was more inspired.

    • There’s definitely a hint of American Girl in the 400 clue song!

      • Bit of Velvet Underground, bit of CBGBs. I just looked at their Wikipedia, and apparently Casablancas decided to start a band after hearing Pearl Jam’s b-side ‘Yellow Ledbetter’.

      • I wonder if he was able to decode what Eddie Vedder was singing in that one!

  2. Harrison permalink

    Not a clue unfortunately

  3. jprobichaud permalink

500 for me. Really liked the debut but that’s about it.

  4. The opening still helped a lot. Funny how logos stick in your mind. So 500 please.
And thanks for the first aid revision too.

    • I like when music can help with health – the beat of Stayin’ Alive for CPR, FAST to help with this band!

  5. 500 please and pet my dog while you’re here.

  6. 500! I went through a phase with ‘Is This It?’ when I was about twelve or thirteen…

    • Fantastic work Adela – and I remember you were discussing Ben Folds Five the other day. A friend loaned me the sheet music to ‘Whatever…’ & I’m attempting to learn some of it over the summer!

      • Thank you!! And wow, good luck — that sounds like lots of fun! Is it the sheet music for the whole album? (It’s such a great collection of songs!!) What song are you learning first?

      • Brick was my intro to the band, so I’ve started there – then I’ll likely attempt to go through in order!

  7. Cheers Stephen. 400 please. Clue N°2 did it nicely for me.

  8. Zack permalink

  9. 500 just cause I recognise the logo.

  10. 400 as I bought the debut as it had a garage rock sound that was opposite musically of the climate was at the time for the most part!
Thought maybe just maybe you were gonna do The Stroke by Billy Squier! haha

  11. 300. Don’t know them but I spend some time on the golf course.

  12. 500 this week, love them!

  13. 500 based on a guess.

  14. 300, please

  15. 400 for me. Was sure Mika would get it at 500 (it’s more her thing) but she got it at 400 too. I shouldn’t be pleased but I am. When I hear Last Nite I only ever think of the clip from the Weird Al polka.

  16. 500 for me. I got into them 10 years after they were a thing. My brother still finds that funny.

  17. I haven’t seen the movie, and didn’t know that story, but I know the logo on the shirt so it’s 500 for me.

  18. 500! I dig these guys and have a couple of their CDs. Haven’t watched any of the Transformer movies.

    • And I’ve only seen the first one – I find I don’t necessarily remember plotlines all that well but I have a photographic memory for band t-shirts in movies!
