Ready for Quiz #5?

It’s time!

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Artist of the Week #5
Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)

500 points………………..American band, formed in 1983, still active today; its bassist (birth name Michael Peter Balzary) is also an actor, perhaps most prominently in his role as the peer pressuring “Needles” in Back to the Future II & III….

400 points………………..though this band’s funky bassist tends to go by his small-flightless-insect stage name (and this band’s drummer bears an uncanny resemblance to the actor Will Ferrell)

300 points……………….Even if it may seem like singer Anthony Kiedis name-checks his home state in every song, on their 1999 album, Californication, somewhat surprisingly, the prefix “Californi-” only appears in 4 tracks

200 points…………….My attempt at recreating this spicy-sounding band’s logo (and By The Way, My Friends, this art is free, I Give it Away!):

100 points………………..The artist is R___ H___ C______ P________

Answer: الفلفل الاحمر الحار

(Please post your points earned in the comments section)

Thanks for playing!

Verbalize the Positive

The intro to Soul to Squeeze is among my all-time favourite guitar intros!

  1. 500, although timeline almost got me, as I thought they’d be a little later than 1983.

    • Admittedly, I’m not too familiar with their pre-1991 output, but the 3 constant members for the last few decades have looked remarkably consistent!

      • I’m not a huge fan actually – never owned any of their music, although I like a lot of their 1990s singles.

  2. Harrison permalink

    400 please.

  3. 500 and I have never heard a whole album, the sock thing scares me away.

  4. And another clue: Born in my home town!
    500 please Mr Music.

  5. 300. Shameful. Never thought of the will Ferrell resemblance before!

    • They actually had a ‘drum-off’ on one of the late night talk shows at one point, it was fun to see them in one place together!

  6. 400. The name was annoyingly familiar but thankfully I’m not a fan.

    • It was only recently I learned his birth name – even as an actor, he’s credited as an insect!

  7. 500 for me. A band I used to listen to when I was younger, but I have very little time for now.

  8. Testify Testify! 500 points please and I’ll keep the sock on.

  9. 500 for me because I love those movies more so than the band, but I remember him in it.

  10. Read the singers autobiography so that helped me in the first clue…
500 Hot Tomalleys from this Guy!

  11. Zack permalink

    500. Soul 2 Squeeze has a great intro, but I think I prefer the slide guitar.

  12. jprobichaud permalink

I forgot that the bass player was in the Back to the Future movies. I definitely remember seeing him in other things though. 400 for me.

  13. 500! My best streak ever!

Too bad the Leafs had to break their bad streak with Pittsburgh. I think the Pens have another cup in them still.

    • Stellar start to 2019 Mike!
I was pleased it was at least a good effort, the last time they played the Leafs won 5-0 (and it could have been even more lopsided).
      I wouldn’t mind seeing a Leafs/Pens conference final!

  14. 500 each for Mika and me. Saw them a few years ago with the Rebirth Brass Band opening.

  15. 500! Watching the BTTF trilogy 100 times is finally starting to pay off!

  16. 400 please.

  17. 400 – the insect was the give away. What other useless info is stored in my brain? Chris

  18. 500! I’m all over this one!

  19. 400. Love the clues!
