Ready for Quiz #35?

Thanks for playing along, all summer long!

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Artist of the Week #35
Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)

500 points………………..American artist, born in Michigan in 1971 (birth name Robert James Ritchie). Although I can’t say I’m a fan of all his lyrical similes, “I’m in it to win it like Yzerman,” from his 1998 tune, Wasting Time, is indeed Bad Ass

400 points……………….His 1998 album, Devil Without a Cause, is on the 1001 list (and according to this artist, in addition to single-handedly putting Detroit city back on the map, he went platinum selling rhymes, 7 times!)

300 points…………………He name-checks himself frequently in song, notably in his big singles Bawitdaba, Cowboy, and American Bad Ass

200 points………………..His stage name is a combination of (a Baby Goat) + (____ & Roll)

100 points………………..The artist is K___ R_____

Answer: طفل الروك

(Please post your points earned in the comments section)

Thanks for playing!

Verbalize the Positive

I’m always curious as to what music people enjoy – so I appreciate that in American Bad Ass, he shared a list of his favourites (ACDC, ZZ Top, Skynyrd…)!

From → Uncategorized

  1. 400, haven’t thought about him for years.

  2. A stunning 100 points there, an artist I have not ever found entertaining

  3. 200. Good hats, bad music. And I’m not so certain about the hats.

  4. Harrison permalink

    200 please

  5. Not quite 666 today… only managed 200. But I’m quite pleased because the less I know about this guy the happier I am.

  6. Sadly, I know this one. 500 for me!

    • I was saying to my friend Michelle on facebook this morning (who was similarly sad/embarrassed to earn full points) – I can relate. In a teacher/student jeopardy challenge years ago, I reluctantly buzzed in with the correct answer to a Katie Holmes/Tom Cruise question. Somewhat embarrassed to know the answer, but points are points after all!

      • I like the Bawitaba stuff, but not so much his southern rock crap he has been putting out. Too generic. Give me Bad Ass and BullGod any day of the week.

      • And I’m not sure if I’ve heard anything (besides the song about sweet home alabama to the tune of sweet home alabama!) since American Bad Ass

  7. I actually have a couple of this guys CD’S! I liked that he fused some metal within his tunes.
    Then I moved on haha
500 American Dollars Sir for me this week!

  8. 200, please.

  9. Zack permalink

    500. He likes Johnny Cash and Grandmaster Flash.

  10. 200. I think I’ve heard of him.

  11. Not the first time in life I’ve said this, but thank goodness for Stevie Y. 500.

  12. jprobichaud permalink

    300. I had all but forgotten about him. Thanks for the reminder…

  13. 000. Had to Google it. Ashamed to have disappointed, Sir. In my defense, last time this week’s artist was ever so slightly in my consciousness was over a decade ago.

    • Not to worry Amrita – I remember when his sweet home albama song came out (a song about sweet home alabama to the tune of sweet home alabama), I thought that was a sign popular music had run out of original ideas! And I don’t think I’ve heard anything of his since

      • Had to Google sweet home Alabama to be sure that it is an original track by lynrd skynrd (pretty sure I spelled that wrong, my brain is going!). Cover might have been for the Reese Witherspoon film. She also did a film called Just Like Heaven with Mark Ruffalo. Wonder where the title for that came from!

      • I remember seeing Just Like Heaven and was delighted when (a cover of) the beautiful song appeared right away!

      • I highly recommend the graphic novel by Craig Thompson called Blankets, in case you haven’t read it. There’s a page and a half I think of lines from Just Like Heaven.

      • I haven’t read it yet – but I quite like that sound of that page and a half especially!

hundred. points. For me and Mika both.

  15. 200, he’s a bit of a knob.

    • I don’t think too many people would argue that ‘All You Need is (this artist)!’

      • Except perhaps those who were fans of his governmental campaign?! (I still cannot believe that he stood for the US senate…)

  16. An embarrassing 500 points for me this week.

  17. 300 from this piss-smelling trashman (not a fan aha!)

    • Well played Milo!
I made the spreadsheet already – so I promise the points will appear in next week’s quiz
