Ready for Quiz #16?
You know I’m here waiting for you! ♫
.
Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)
Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.
Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.
After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.
Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.
I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.
In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.
In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.
Here goes!

500. Seems like the album’s big single was the last great mainstream guitar rock song.
That’s a good point – no post-2004 track is jumping to mind for me!
I didn’t really think at the time about how dance oriented ‘Take Me Out’ is – it’s kind of funky new wave, not miles away from early Gang of Four or something.
300 please, due to a sound knowledge of history
Well done on the World War I history question!
400
Nice!
400.
Well played Amrita!
500. Quebecois!
THat’s up there on my demonym list too (Liverpudlian/Halegonian/Mancunian might round out the top 5)!
200. Bad week for me.
I anticipate a bounce back next week, John!
I love this band. 500 please!
Exemplary work Steve!
500. Place – I can only think of about 5 bands, Date – well that narrows it down as at least one was dead by then.
Well done wdeod!
500 please!
Nicely done Milo!
A lucky guess bags me 500.
I guess you & J have a home field advantage this week, well done HMO!
400 please. Remember enjoying the album at the time, but haven’t spun it in ages.
I brought it back out a few years ago to review for the list – it’s due for another spin!
I only got this by the SNL reference…than it clicked…..200 Pump me Ups!
(Single muscular Clap) Well Done Deke!
HA..well played
200. I need those word clues.
Well done on the word clue, D!
500. Great debut album.
Nice work JP – and agreed!
400
Good work Zack!
500 each for me and Mika
Well done Mika & James!
200 this week…
You know your vintage SNL sketches!
500 and My Waynes World viewing has not helped at all the last few weeks, may stop watching for awhile. Luckily i have a Glaswegian friend who would never forgive getting this wrong.
Haha, I”m pleased you have not upset any Glaswegians this week!
Earned me a shiny 300 this week to tie me up with Sarca! I have their first two albums bit haven’t spent that much time with them.
And I’ve only got the debut thus far – hard to believe it’s 15 years old. Well done tying Sarca!
400! (I am reminded of Grade 9 History by the 300 clue, where we studied WWI and I was thus oft reminded of this band… We also learnt this stranger-than-fiction story, which I think has since been found a myth, about how the assassin of that historical figure only came to finally execute his mission — pun unintended! — because he had purchased a sandwich near where that figure’s vehicle had been parked! So I now associate this band with sandwiches…)
I hadn’t heard that part of the story – I may never think of sandwiches the same way!
Haha ditto!! Here’s a link about it: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/gavrilo-princips-sandwich-79480741/
400, can’t stand em.
400’s a fine score, considering!
Haha!
Can I sneak in late and claim 400 please? Don’t listen to Mike, he’s just an old fuddy-duddy.
Sneak in permitted, 400 successfully claimed!
Got it. 500!
Huzzah!
I’ll have 500 big points please! Took me a while to fully appreciate their debut, but I got there after about 10 years!
I’m pleased you got there eventually!
