Ready for Quiz #9?

Someone like you!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

    100 please

  2. 500 – it’s a memorable surname.

  3. 100 I am truly ashamed, so ashamed I almost lied. But the honor system is a hard thing to buck.

  4. 400, my mum’s favourite band 🙂

  5. Aha Shake 500 Points please

  6. 500 please, they were really good, briefly.

    • What’s that old saying, better to have been briefly good than? In any event, the 500 points will endure!

  7. Zack permalink

500, but not a fan of these guys.

  8. 400 for me. I didn’t know they were all related.

    • It’s funny seeing their wikipedia page – whereas some bands have complex timelines to show the dozens of members who have played in the group at one point or another, these folks don’t even have a ‘past members’ list!

  9. 200. I get the clue but I don’t know the band at all.

  10. 500. At first I was thinking of another ‘family’ band of around the same time, but their ‘Numbers’ were made up of two brother and sister pairs, and they were British not American.

    • I can’t recall where/when I saw that pair of siblings duos (maybe opening for Brian Wilson) but they were good too!

      • I saw them in the UK, and their vocal harmonies and live production was just excellent. Wouldn’t be surprised then that they might have opened for the legendary Mr Wilson!

      • Yes I believe that was where it was – in Scotland in 2005!

  11. 400 as Use Somebody is played everyday on local crap radio. lol. I guess it pays at times to listen to the radio at work playing in the background…
I will admit that clue for 300 was might clever…but I will take the 400!

    • Cheers, Deke – and I’m pleased that being unable to escape the song ended up turning into a good score!

    300. I don’t really know this band at all.

  13. 400! I didn’t get the first clue at all, but definitely know the two songs you mentioned!

  14. 500 points please, sir!

  15. 400 points for me please! 🙂 I used to love “Use Somebody”! One Direction covered it a few times on their Up All Night tour; I think that’s why I like it so much lol! Thanks for the quiz Geoff!

  16. 500 for Mika. 400 for me and I’m disappointed we put off the Community re-watch.

    • Those first 3 seasons are re-watchable over and over again, with no sign of diminishing marginal returns!

  17. 400. I guess I gave up on Community too soon!

  18. Community FTW. 500 big ones for this guy!

    • Community for the win indeed, Aaron – both the show and the blogosphere!

      • Yes! And my lovely wife loved her Troy And Abed In The Morning coffee mug belated Christmas gift!

      • Well gifted, Aaron!

      • Yeah it was a throw-in for her Christmas gift that was ordered in November and arrived in February. Better late than never.

I also got an Israeli paratrooper shoulder bag for one of my gifts. I love it. It was an Abed Christmas.

      • I believe his Christmas date was December 9 – I’m pleased that your Christmas has continued into February!

      • Me too! Even better, we finally got to see family we haven’t seen in months. So awesome.

  19. 400 for me, Stephen — I learnt a new thing, about their familial relations to one another, today! (Today is a day of learning in general, as university goes back in Australia today — this new fact is a fine way to start the academic year!)

    • I hope school goes well this year, Adela – it’s a promising start to it today!

      • It went very well, thank you, Stephen! I am doing a very interesting subject this year all about the literature of the 1960s, which I had my first tutorial for today… and which involves getting to study the Beatles!!

      • That sounds like a terrific course, enjoy!

  20. Paul permalink

300 for me this week. Have heard of the band but not at all familiar with their stuff.

    • And I they’ve had different sounds of the years (early scrappy vs. more stadium sound later on) – 300 sounds good either way!
I think I missed this when I made the spreadsheet earlier this week, so I’ll add it to next week’s

  21. 500, love them
