2021 Artists of the Week (so far):

Bruno Mars, Stone Temple Pilots, Carole King, 2Pac

.

My thanks to all who have participated in the “Artist of the Week” quizzes so far.

Congrats to all those who correctly identified 2Pac (Tupac Shakur) last week.

The results after 4 weeks (as of Tuesday afternoon – results submitted after that time will be added to next week’s spreadsheet):

Ready for Quiz #5?

Don’t worry ’bout your laundry, Forget about your job!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)

For:

500 points………………..American artist, born in Lynwood, California in 1959 (as referenced by his 2006 album, Straight Outta Lynwood).

I’ve argued that he is the most durable/consistent artist of all-time, both musically & physically; as for the last several decades, he somehow always looks like he is about 39 years old!

.

.

.

.

.

400 points……………….But the audio, of course, is only where The Saga Begins; it’s merely a part of the equation, as his memorable music videos, such as You Don’t Love Me Anymore, are an equally important part of his appeal.

And he also starred in the incomparable 1989 film/cinematic masterpiece, UHF.

.

.

.

.

.

300 points……………………The ultimate parody artist’s stage name, in puzzle form:

.

.

.

.

.

200 points………………..The artist/accordionist’s stage name, as another __ + ___ = _______:

.

.

.

.

.

100 points………………..The artist is “W_____” A__

  1. 500. I didn’t know the album title but it was still obvious whose it was.

  2. 200 points for me this week! That’s an improvement from the last quiz. I took a hint at the first puzzle, but I looked at the second puzzle just to be sure!!! 🙂

  3. 500 points this week!

    400 please

    • Well done on the 1989 movie clue, Harrison!

Yep, that clinched it. Also, it’s been happening for a long time now, but my lazy ass has been to lazy to tell you about it (sorry)- my wordpress notifications tab in the top right doesn’t load, so I can’t actually like your replies to indicate that I’ve seen them, but I do see them all.

      • Not to worry, Harrison – I’m actually having notifications issues too. Sometimes they load instantly, sometimes it just seems to freeze and I end up giving up and going to the classic view (through the WP Admin option).
Stranger still – sometimes when I “like” a post, the like vanishes as I’m partway through writing a comment!

Oh I get that one too, and then I have to re-like it.

  5. 500 for me baby!! Nice way to start the week.

  6. Smells Like 300 Points 🙂

  7. Dang it only 300…Just Eat it!

  8. UHF was the in for me. 400 points please

  9. 500 – look for a post on my site regarding him real soon! Rabbitage…

We don’t need no stinkin’ badgers! 400 for me.

  11. Zack permalink

    Only 400 this week. Drats!

  12. 500! I had it before reading the first clue. “Don’t worry ’bout your laundry, Forget about your job!” was the giveaway!
    .

  13. I’ll take 300 even though I should have known at 400.

  14. 500 each for me and Mika. She couldn’t help but know it from living with me.

  15. 400! Kevin beat me this week!

  16. 300 points I spent too much time running with scissors in my life

  17. I got 500 because of James.

  18. 300 for me this week, Geoff!

  19. Paul permalink

On a roll baby! 3 weeks running – 500 please. I realize for the regular masters this is a ho hum “yawn” streak, but I’m happy with it!

    • Considering the diversity of the last 3 weeks of artists, I’d say there’s nothing yawn-worthy about such an accomplishment! Well done, Paul!

  20. Paul permalink

Saw him in concert once – puts on a hilarious show!

  21. 300 please. Canadian Idiot is my favourite of his – not sure I should bring that up here …

  22. Holen permalink

I actually got it before the first hint when you typed “Don’t worry about your laundry, forget about your job.”

So can I have double the points? 1000?

    • Holen permalink

I got the 2Pac one at 500 also.

      • Nice way to make an entrance to the quizzes!

      • Holen permalink

I usually do really well on them, but read them way after they’ve come out so I don’t comment.

      • I’m pleased you reported these scores!

    • Well done on the pre-quiz lyric clue, Holen – it feels like it should be worth that much!

      • Holen permalink

Watched UHF so many times with high school/college buddies. Always hilarious. One time we followed it up with Rambo II, and all agreed the real thing was just as ridiculous as the parody.

      • I gather that’s the trouble SNL has with parodies these days too – sometimes the real thing is so ridiculous, they can’t really exaggerate it to make it any more outrageous!
