Ready for Quiz #38?

Be sure to choose the correct artist and not The Wrong Band!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Few could match her career-opening run from 1992-1998 of Little Earthquakes / Under the Pink / Boys for Pele / From the Choirgirl Hotel

    500. Hahaha. CFNY used to have this gag where they have this singer cover TV themes (like Seinfeld). This was right after she covered Nirvana and R.E.M. in the mid-90s. It always made me chuckle and I totally forgot about it until just now.

    • I’d imagine she would do a fine version of the Simpsons theme!

      • jprobichaud permalink

Perhaps a bit slower, bit more mournful, and a lot more sighs.

  3. Oh yes finally 500

  4. Harrison permalink

I have no clue, more than any other of my no clue ones previously.

    • I guess if you’re going to have no clue, might as well set a record for the most no clue-ness week, Harrison!

  5. me: “For 500 points, American singer-songwriter & pianist, born in North Ca-“
    Mika: “Ben Folds!”
me: “You’re going to want to let me finish.”
Anyway, 500 for each of us.

    • I hadn’t realized he fit that description too – and I don’t believe he’s been an artist of the week yet, so that North Carolina singer/songwriter/pianist combo may yet resurface in a future quiz!

  6. There’s an embarrassing story of how I misread the middle two letters of this artist’s surname, but I shall not sully these pages with it. 500.

    • Such embarrassment perhaps helped make the artist all the more memorable & eventually helped you earn a perfect score today, Bruce!

  7. 300 for me. I’m not too familiar with her…only by name.

  8. Y Kant Stevie Count to higher than 500 Points? Please

    • If there’s a Tear in Your Hand today, Steve – it will be a tear of joy, like at weddings, thanks to another perfect score!

  9. 100 points this week. A complete epic failure! lol

  10. Zack permalink

500 because I recognized the album title. It’s always interesting to find out where people are from and how old they are.

    • I remember they used to have a carnival-style game at Canada’s wonderland where if the employee couldn’t guess your age within 2 years, you’d win a prize – and I would be lousy at playing that game, as I never would have guessed this artist was born in 1963!

      • Zack permalink

We have those in the states too. I don’t think I’d be any better!

  11. Paul permalink

Back on top today – 500. Love that debut album!

  12. I’ll check in with a 300 today.

  13. 300 for me, thanks to the pic clue!

  14. 200 points please! I’ve never heard of this person before, but once again, ‘Full House’ saved my butt lol! Thanks for the quiz Geoff!

  15. Nailed it, 500. I don’t listen to it often, but when I do I enjoy the hell out of it.

  16. 300 this week. I’ve heard of her but don’t know any of her music.

  17. Am I too late to sneak a 500? I love Tori.
