Ready for Quiz #27?
It is Sunday Morning after all!
.
Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)
Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.
Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.
After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.
Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.
I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.
In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.
In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.
Here goes!

Artist of the Week #27
Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)
For:
500 points………………..Influential American band, featuring guitarist Sterling Morrison & drummer Moe Tucker, formed in NYC in the mid-60s.
Their 1967/1968/1969 albums are on the 1001 list.
As the saying goes, they may not have sold many records at the time, but everyone that bought one of their albums started a band!
.
.
.
.
.
400 points……………….Two of their 1001-listed albums are eponymous & the other, White Light/White Heat, was the last to feature founding member John Cale.
My attempt at re-creating their 1967 self-titled (with Nico) album cover art, apologies for the lack of fruit ripeness!

.
.
.
.
.
300 points……………………The band’s primary songwriter was guitarist/vocalist Lou Reed.
And though perhaps not a (the group’s one-time manager) Andy Warhol-esque piece of art, the band, in puzzle form:

200 points………………..I’m Waiting for the Man Quiz that doesn’t feature at least one Seinfeld reference!

Verbalize the Positive
For years, this was a group whose appeal was unclear to me.
But then I heard The Gift, mystery solved, I’ve been a fan ever since!

300 please, mostly courtesy of Holen
Well done, Harrison (and Holen)!
Oh Holen will have the full 500, I assure you.
500. It was my first thought with the No Doubt bonus clue a few weeks back.
I remember that, Graham – it took some restraint for me to avoid saying, that knowledge may come in handy on week 27!
You obviously have them planned ahead a fair bit!
I find the ideas seem to either come in bunches or not at all – so if I’m lucky enough to have some quiz inspiration, I’ll try to have a few quizzes ready to go for when I inevitably go into one of those lulls!
Hunches come in bunches?
400, I always thought that saying in 500 was about The Ramones
I imagine it would apply to them too – I remember fellow blogger Zack (The Audible Stew) sharing a great point about late 70s guitar influences. Eddie Van Halen may have made people want to play guitar like that but Johnny Ramone would have inspired so many as well into believing it was possible
For some, simply saying ‘mid-60s NY’ and ‘Moe’ would be enough. But then we would have missed the other marvellous clues.
Cheers, Bruce – I had a feeling you might not need the entire first clue (or even first sentence) this week!
I’m a little mad at myself for this one, but 400. Should’ve been a 500 but I couldn’t place it although Steve Morrison’s name was driving me crazy because I recognized his name mostly.
Not to worry, John – I’m pleased you got the fruit photo album cover clue.
And I quite enjoyed the part of the show that I was able to catch live yesterday, that was a great memory: John – hey do you know this one by Matt Nathanson? Ryan – I did that record!
Thanks. Ryan has so many great stories and I made sure to hit as many as we could. And that conversation has happened on more than just a Matt album. I was always stunned by who had worked with.
And I like the mix of artists too, Kelly Clarkson, STP, anything & everything in between!
You’re a fake fan.
Yep!!
What does the T. stand for anyway? Tiberius like Captain Kirk?
What “T”. The “T” in my middle name? The “T” stands for Terrific!
John Terrific Snow? I don’t buy it!
What about TerriblySexy or Thunderman or Troublemaker or whatever you want it to be.
God damn it, John. Those adjectives just made me involuntarily mentally picture you dressed up in a gimp outfit doing a thunderclap.
You can’t feed me the words sexy, thunder, and troublemaker without doing me a disservice.
Who knows. Maybe I’ve done that before.
Let’s see the outfit on your next LeBrain Train appearance.
Yeah you called it. No waiting for my man this week. 500 please
There Steve Goes Again, bouncing back with a perfect score!
300 thanks to my knowledge of transit systems.
Knowledge of transit systems pays off again, D!
500, easy! One of my favorites. 300 for last week.
Both will be added to the spreadsheet, excellent work this week especially!
400. I thought they were British. I learn new things.
John Cale is British, the rest of them are from New York. Unless you count Nico, who’s German.
Soooo confuuuused….
I can’t believe you thought Lou was English. His New York accent is thicker than my hypothetical ex-wife’s waste.
I’ve actually haven’t thought of him. I don’t know if I have ever heard him speak.
It’s pretty pronounced in a lot of his songs, but I’m guessing you’ve not explored his catalog much.
Real thick on this one. Especially on the word “boss”.
I’ve heard Walk On The Wild on The Simpsons more times than from him.
Here I was thinking you were cool.
I’m only cool enough to know that I’m not cool.
Cool.
How dare you!! He’s WELSH!!!
I thought of that after I posted it, and I didn’t feel like correcting it. The limey’s are all the same to me!
what’s that old alanis tune, you live, you learn!
Yeah, I do more of the former than the latter, lol
Loaded didn’t make the 1001? What a load of meecrob!
400! Thanks for the Nico clue!
Anytime, Sarca – and well done!
Dang 300 this week. The banana pick baffled me lol but once I got to the third clue it clicked lol
Very few have confused my art/banana photography skills with Andy Warhol’s!
500 which is a thankful respite from the downward trend they may let me into the parties tomorrow.
This could be the start of a new favourable points trend, Neil!
500 shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather please!
(and kudos for the banana cover re-creation!)
Cheers, TVTA – and a perfect Venus in Furs score it is!
500 for Mika and 400 for me as she continues to leave me further in the dust
I know on a James/Mika ‘Music interests venn diagram,’ you’d have a lot of overlap in the middle. I’ll see what I can do about adding more James-specific clues at the 500 level!
500. I didn’t even have to finish reading the first sentence of the first clue. You want to talk amazing debut albums…
And on the LeBrain Train’s ‘Top Debut Albums’ show next week, I bet it will make an appearance or two!
I would most definitely hope so!
500. I’ve been enjoying a Lou Reed 5-disc set from the library so they’ve been on my mind lately.
A timely set to have borrowed, Zack – nice work!
Zero points for me, sorry! Thanks for the quiz though, Geoff. I’ve seen that album cover before with the ripe banana, but I had no idea who the band was, dang it.
Not to worry, Lana – I’m pleased that even if the band name wasn’t known, the banana photo was at least recognizable!
That’s a positive way to look at it. I feel a little better now, thanks.
500 please Geoff.
I had a bit of a Foggy Notion that you’d do well this week, Joe!
500 this week please! Love your album cover recreation! Its funny when you know the band all the clues are easy, when you don’t all the clues are hard. 🙂
Cheers, Paul – and that’s a great way of putting it, hopefully next week will be another one of those easy clue weeks!
400 for me this week, Geoff.
Nice work, J!
500 please. One of my lovely wife’s favourite albums. She doesn’t own a lot of CDs, but she does have that one.
I guess if you’re only going to have a few CDs, might as well make them good ones!
Yup, for sure. She has good taste (I mean, she married me) 🙂 She has all the Tom Waits albums, Pogues, these guys, and a lot of Leonard. You get the idea.
