Ready for Quiz #11?

Feeling Good!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

    100 please

  2. 500. I think Bowie’s cover of Wild is the Wind is a slight blight on an otherwise terrific album.

    • And Station to Station’s on the 1001 list – still have to get around to reviewing it!

      • It has something for everyone – a hit single (Golden Years), sci-fi weirdness (TVC-15), a ten minute epic (title track), some 1970s God-rock (Word on a Wing), some jazz (Wild is the Wind), and a funky guitar jam (Stay).

      • I think that’s probably what I find most impressive about Bowie – even though he always sounds different (as you mentioned, this time even all over the map on the same album!), he is always still unmistakably David Bowie.

  3. 300 and I should’ve known this having just watched a documentary about her.

  4. What does it mean that I found the first clue easy and the last one impossible?

  5. Yeah I have no clue sorry. But I enjoyed the quiz either way because I loved the Degrassi reference because it’s one of my favorite shows. Thanks for educating us Geoff!

    • Excellent choice of TV show, Lana – a Canadian classic!

      • Indeed it is! The later seasons are not that good, but I really love seasons 1-12.

      • If I ever include ‘Drake’ as an Artist of the Week, you can bet that ‘Aubrey Graham as Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi’ will be a clue, Lana!

      • Yay!!!! Drake was awesome on that show. I loved Jimmy’s friendship with Spinner.

  6. 400 for me this week.

  7. I guessed right on the portrait. 300 for me.

    100. I’m so embarrassed 😳.

    • Not to worry, Zack – these weeks are often followed by 500 weeks where the answer is known before the end of the first clue!

  9. 300 please. I should have done better, I have one of hers.

  10. 100 points, an absolute disaster in my point total. I’ll be closely keeping my eye on these comments as to see what the Buried On Mars Man says. I shall be back lol

    • Not to worry, Deke – I anticipate a nice bounce-back next week.
Think of it like the weather in TBay, in the negatives one day, a heat wave the next!

  11. 200. A challenging one this week buddy!

Wow! I did not know this one at all! 200 for me.

  13. 300 for me this week. Sadly I’m not familiar with her work at all, just know the name and recognized her face in the 300 clue.

  14. 400. The Lauryn Hill clue is a cool lyric 😎
First I was thinking of another singer, rhymes with Feta Games.

  15. 100 this week. I know nothing about her except the name.

  16. 400 each for me and Mika, both from the lyric clue (which is from a song I’d never heard, but was able to figure out which name fit well there)

    • Glad to hear it, James – I thought I’d add the ‘microphone’ line to emphasize the rhyming scheme & I’m pleased it might have helped!

  17. 500 please. My wife’s favourite recording artist of all time

  18. Pure 500 for this guy, Geoff! This lady gets a ton of play, chez KMA East!

  19. 0.0 for me this week. Never heard of her or any of the people in the clues, lol Sarah had to give me the answer.

    • Not to worry, Kevin – I think that’s perhaps only your 2nd ever shutout, so life is still good!

      • True dat. Went to stream some her tunes and I had heard a few of them before from somewhere. Just one of those artist who flew under my radar.

300 points on an absolute guess. I had no idea who the non-gymnast people were so that didn’t help. 🙂

  21. 500 this week — an encyclopaedic knowledge of David Bowie comes in handy in the most unexpected of circumstances (his cover of the song mentioned in the 500 clue is one of my all-time favourite Bowie songs!)
