Ready for Quiz #11?

Let’s go!

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Artist of the Week #11
Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)

500 points………………..Seventeen years before Canada’s Tom Cochrane observed that Life is a Highway (and stated that he wished to drive it), this German group had a title track chorus that translated to, ‘we drive drive drive on the highway’

400 points……………….Some might say this Düsseldorf group plays ‘Electronic’ music, others might categorize the band’s music as ‘Krautrock’

300 points…………………They have a trio of albums on the 1001 list, Autobahn, Trans-Europe Express, and The Man-Machine

200 points…………………A one-word band name, the first part of the word is the same as a North American manufacturer of (unnaturally orange) packaged macaroni & cheese; the second part is a slightly different spelling for the antonym of play

100 points………………..The artist is K____w___

Answer: العمل الحرفي

(Please post your points earned in the comments section)

Thanks for playing!

Verbalize the Positive

The band’s still going in 2018!

  1. 500. I’m best at the 1970s, even though I only lived through the last few months.

  2. 500. Superfantastische!

  3. Ah! I needed that second clue, but it’s 400 for me!

  4. 500! Though it took a little racking of the ol brain

  5. 500. Possibly my quickest ever answer, as I think you predicted, you clever man.

    • My thanks Bruce!
I gather they have an album named minimum-maximum & I had a feeling your inevitable 500 score would fit that description today (due to your knowledge of the group & the limited availability of bonus points!)

      • Min-Max is pretty good. It is a film of their mid-naughties tour (which I saw in Melbourne). But I’m not sure it makes die Roboten 21st C artists!

  6. 500! This week, yeah yeah!!

  7. What is my score if I guessed it at 500 but confirmed it at 400?

  8. 400 and thats from reading Creem Magazine back in hIgh School when I should have been doing homework !

    • The reading paid off today Deke!

      • Ha yes it did. Creem I would buy just to read about other acts as they seemed to feature all kinds of music not just straight Metal like Circus/Hit Parader etc….
I wouldn’t buy these acts stuff but i would read em…
First time I ever read about bands like this one and Devo etc…
        Good mag for its time

      • When I hear Circus/Hit Parader, I inevitably think of Get in the Ring, Axl wasn’t quite as fond of reading those ones!

      • HA….no he wasn’t. Brent Jensen said it best in book No Sleep….that those mags were just handlers for the record companies …
Kerrang from England was the best mag..but was hard to get..
Creem also did the occasional issue called Creem Metal which was pretty decent as well..

  9. Zack permalink

  10. Guessed at 500, confirmed at 400…not sure what that means for a score!

  11. I’ll take a 300 for today.

  12. die Rückkehr zu 500

  13. 500 this week. I’ve loved what I’ve heard from them so far

    • Well played Chris – I haven’t ventured too far in their catalogue yet, sounds promising!

      • I love their 1981 album but the 70s stuff is supposed to be great too

  14. 400, I’m embarrassed to say!

    • No need to blush about a score that strong, Joe!

      • I’m a massive enormo fan of them and I let them down Geoff! I LET THEM DOWN!!

      • I solemnly swear not to tell them Joe – I don’t think they spend too much time ’round this part of Computer World!

      • I have brought shame on my family name.

  15. 0.0 That isn’t a look of surprise. That is my score.

  16. jprobichaud permalink

    500. I didn’t even read the clues that followed. “Now’s the time on Sprockets when we dance!”

  17. as is becoming the norm, 500 for Mika, 400 for me

  18. Am I too late in answering? 500, obviously. I’ve been away at a conference with people from the country this band’s from, defending their music to them, and using the word for motorway to help pronounce an Indian name!
BTW, didn’t they win a Grammy this year?

  19. 500 because that song is (I think) the only song I know by them!

  20. I’ll take 300 for the week.
