Ready for Quiz #40?

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Artist of the Week #40
Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)

500 points………………..American artist, he was the lead singer/lead guitarist for The Crickets (whose album, The “Chirping” Crickets, is on the 1001 list)

400 points………………..Born in 1936, he died in a plane crash in 1959, on “the day the music died”

300 points……………….Perhaps due to the stylistic similarties of their chosen glasses frames, it’s true that he doesn’t look dissimilar to Rivers Cuomo (as Rivers would later acknowledge through song, oooo wee oooo! ♪)

200 points………………The second from the right in the picture below (he also shares a first name with Will Ferrell’s character in Elf & a last name with a Christmas plant)

100 points………………..The artist is:   B________ H________

Answer: برعم هولي

(Please post your points earned in the comments section)

Thanks for playing!

Verbalize the Positive

That’ll be the Day is a terrific side 2 opener, another argument in favour of the LP format!

  1. 500. I’ve been noticing on mobile that I get a helpful image in my reader feed sometimes. I try to ignore it and be honest. I was expecting the Weezer clue first.

    • Thanks for letting me know – I’ve tried to fix it by making Sarca’s logo the “featured image” & hopefully that’s what shows up in the reader from now on.
And I was tempted to put =w= at the 500 clue – but I thought I’d try to reward knowing this artist rather than knowledge of Rivers (which admittedly was my gateway)!

    500. Perhaps the forefather of nerd rock?

    • And for that I am grateful!

      • jprobichaud permalink

As are we all. Happy Thanksgiving!

      • Same to you JP – looks like we’re in for a final couple days of summer temperatures before the frost arrives!

      • jprobichaud permalink

I don’t mind that at all. It can wait until December to snow.

  3. 500p today. Interesting to speculate how his career/life would have panned out if he had lived longer!

  4. Pegged 500 points again this week.

  5. Got a spare 500, Buddy?

  6. 500. Easiest clue first! But I’m struggling to ignore picture prompts on my mobile too.

    • Nice work Kid Slender! And I’ve hopefully fixed the photo preview (by choosing Sarca’s logo as the ‘featured image’ hopefully the wordpress reader picks that up instead)

  7. 500. Played 20th Century Masters at work this week.

    • A well timed listen, nice work Mike! (and I’m guessing Jen approves of yesterday’s Tavares hat trick!)

      • I didn’t hear the end of it!

      • And I imagine the LeBrain household wasn’t too disappointed with another 7-goal performance last night either!

      • I’m hoping I get my TV back soon. This will be a problematic winter. Star Trek is coming back. It’s the only show I absolutely INSIST I get the dibs on the TV for. Everything else can be recorded.

      • And now Matthews has 10(!) goals already – I fear at this rate (if all goes well for Jen & The Leafs), the competition for the TV will last well into the spring!

  8. 500 more lease.

  9. 500- apparently the fact I read a lot about this artist when I was massively into The Beatles came in handy! (A new streak hopefully?)

  10. 500 Points Geoff! My Dad is and was a huge fan of this person! Actually they went and visited the last concert hall where he played which I think is Clear Lake Iowa a few summers back.
Crazy that Waylon Jennings was the bass player and was the one who gave up his seat on the plane for him….
My Dad knows all. the history of Holly and as he put it when this guy died my Dad gave up on Rock N Roll and my Dad was 19 at the time!

    • Excellent work Deke!
And that would be fascinating visiting some of those rocknroll locations – good choice by Deke Sr. with this artist as one of his fave artists!

      • No one has ever said Deke Sr…hahaha thats classic man! haha

  11. 500 for me today.

  12. 400 for me! The two week stretch of 500’s is broken. 🙂

  13. Zack permalink

    500. I heard on the radio this week that the woman who inspired his song ‘Peggy Sue’ just passed away.

  14. 500 easy peasy!

  15. 500 please

  16. 500 big smackadoodle points for me, please!

  17. 500 each for me and Mika.

  18. Got 500 if I’m no too late! Man, the weeks have been flying by lately!
