Ready for Quiz #19?

Let’s begin!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)

For:

500 points………………..Scene from the movie High Fidelity:

Rob: “(the title track from this American Artist’s 1973 album). That’s our song. (This artist) is responsible for our entire relationship.”

Laura: “Oh is that so? I’d like a word with him then.”

.

.

.

.

.

400 points……………….The above song features a romantic-mood-setting / high-pitched 4-note walk-up intro (emphasis on the wah wah)…

.

.

.

.

,

300 points…………………and perhaps to avoid any possible musical/lyrical misinterpretations for when he gets that feeling, the artist (aka the “Prince of Motown”) named both that song & its parent album, Let’s Get It On…
.

.

.

.

.

200 points…………………which is one of his 3 Soul, Funk, &/or R&B albums on the list (along with What’s Going On & Here, My Dear)

.

.

.

.

.

100 points………………..The artist is:    M________ G_____

.

Answer: مارفن غاي

Thanks for playing!

Verbalize the Positive

What’s Going On was the first album I reviewed back in December 2011 – an album that set the bar pretty high for the rest of the 1001 list!

  1. 300, haven’t seen High Fidelity since it came out.

    • Nice work – it’s been a while for me too. For whatever reason, people wearing band t-shirts in films or people discussing artists in films stick with me, long after I’ve forgotten what actually happens in the film!

  2. 500. I did not expect Jack Black to sing like that when I first watched it.

  3. 300. My head is fuzzy with Eurovision overload right now. It’s a Swedish thing – you wouldn’t understand.

  4. 500, I rewatched High Fidelity just the other week!

  5. 300. Been ages since I’ve seen that film. My mind went somewhere else…

  6. 100 yikes …guess u will hear about that on the grapevine

    • I heard Deke – fortunately, because at least you still got on the board, I’m not just about to lose my mind!

  7. 300 and mad I couldn’t remember the Hi Fidelity scene.

  8. Remember seeing it in the cinema on release. A group of us went, a bunch of music-tragic blokes. At interval the one I’m closest to observed that I was sitting between Dick and Barry. I laughed because that made me John Cusack. When I bought it on DVD, I sat on the couch with my Laura and enjoyed it again. Perhaps more.
    500 points please.

  9. 300. Been ages since I’ve seen this film.

  10. Oh dear. Racking my brain all the way to the 300 clue. D’oh. Of course. So, 300 of your finest points, please.

  11. A mere 100.

  12. Zack permalink

    Only 100 this week.

  13. 300. I need to watch High Fidelity again.

    300. Like Mr Aphoristical, I haven’t seen High Fidelity (save for short sections while flipping channels) since the movie theatre. Probably time to dust it off.

    • Feels like one of those films that’s worth re-watching every few years!

      • jprobichaud permalink

You’re probably right. I’ve been remiss.

  15. 500 — big High Fidelity fan here haha.
    Milo.

  16. If I hadn’t gotten 500 on this one I would have to hand in my music card.

  17. 500, I just watched High Fidelity again… luckily.

  18. 300 each for Mika and I.
