Ready for Quiz #35?

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Artist of the Week #35
Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)

500 points………………..This American artist’s tune, Jeep’s Blues, was featured prominently in the film, American Hustle (and in that scene, his moustached face was also featured prominently on a bracelet worn by Amy Adams)

400 points………………..Born in 1899 in Washington D.C., this band leader/composer/pianist’s 1956 live jazz album, At Newport, is on the 1001 list

300 points…………………Though his birth name was Edward, based on his more regal stage name, his royal title ranking would put him above a Count but below a Prince, as shown in the diagram below:

200 points……………….2-word stage name: The first name is a North Carolina University (whose basketball team is coached by “Coach K”) and if you drop the “w,” he shares his second name with a type of tall, rubber boot

100 points………………..The artist is:   D_____ E___________

Answer: دوق ايلنجتون

(Please post your points earned in the comments section)

Thanks for playing!

Verbalize the Positive

I love when good songs (like Jeep’s Blues) are discussed by good actors (Amy Adams & Christian Bale) in good movies (like American Hustle)!

From → Uncategorized

  1. 400. Not enough of a jazz guy to get full marks.

  2. 400. I feel inspired to give him a listen.

  3. Barking up the wrong tree here but managed to sort it out in time to get 300,

  4. Love the chart.

  5. 200 points. I saw American Hustle 4-5 years ago, will have to go back and watch that scene! The limited edition vinyl version of the soundtrack includes 6 songs not Included on the CD, Dirty Work by Steely Dan being my favorite of the bonus tracks.

  6. Oof 100 this time!

  7. I’m Singing the Blues today Geoff!
    Only 200!

  8. 300 for me! I never saw American Hustle and now I regret it!!

  9. jprobichaud permalink

Not quite awake yet. Took me right to the last clue. 100 this morning. Maybe I’ll go back to bed,

  10. Zack permalink

    I made it at 300.

  11. 300 this week…

  12. 300 😦
    Tough one for me!

  13. 400 today.

  14. 300 not a real follower of this type of music.

  15. 400. Haven’t seen American Hustle though Amy Adams is great!

    • She is! Though none of the characters in the film are particularly likeable, the film itself is excellent

  16. Oh man you’re in my wheelhouse now. 500.

  17. 300 for me. 200 for Mika and now she’s pouting.

    • I think old school jazz was a tough week for many – I anticipate less pouting with scores next week!

  18. 100… It became painfully obvious to me when I went back to the 300 and 400 clues after guessing, it’s too early haha! (And I’m watching Amy Adams in Sharp Objects right now, she is indeed great!)

    • I haven’t seen Sharp Objects yet – but if Amy’s in it, it sounds like it’s worth watching!

  19. 300 for me this week!

  20. Took me some thinking but I earned me a 400 this week! Love the third clue!
