Ready for Quiz #23?

It’s time!

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Artist of the Week #23
Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)

500 points………………..On this author’s “Top 15 Albums” list from the Top15onthe15th blogging festivites a few years ago, this band’s 1997 & 1995 albums were #3 and #5, respectively (No surprises there)

400 points………………..Though their 21st century output hasn’t exactly emphasized guitars, guitarist Jonny Greenwood’s Phantom Thread score received an Oscar nomination last year

300 points…………………Lead singer Thom Yorke, according to one of his early lyric sheets, considers himself to be a Creep/weirdo

200 points…………………One word band name; the first half of the name is a listening device with AM/FM options, the second half is the part of a body where one typically finds the organs responsible for hearing such an AM/FM device

100 points………………..The artist is:    R______________

Answer: راديوهيد

(Please post your points earned in the comments section)

Thanks for playing!

Verbalize the Positive

Likely my favourite active band!

  1. 500, I’ve been thinking about them recently.

    Ok. I got 500.

  3. 300, been avoiding them lately.

  4. 500. Was just listening to their second album the other day!

  5. 500. Spotted the italics just in time.

  6. 500!! Again!! I do believe I’m on a roll!!

  7. 500 — cheeky lil’ clue there!

  8. Thanks to time spent scouring the section of the VC catalogue covering the 90s (for a forthcoming cover quiz, as you may have guessed), I lucked out on this one. On another day, three clues. Today: just one needed. Yay!

    • Yay – to both the stellar score and to the news that a 90s cover quiz is being prepared!
If any of their LP covers end up in the quiz, I should be able to at least tie my score from the 80s quiz! 😀

  9. Only 300. Never been able to get into them. Maybe someday it will click.

    • I think they may be one of those groups that many admire more than enjoy (especially the later stuff) – but 300 points is admirable either way!

  10. Zack permalink

  11. 400! This MIGHT explain why I had so many top 15 on the 15th hits yesterday?

    • I think I’d set up the quiz on Wednesday (and had it post automatically at 12:01 this morning) – so perhaps there will be even more top15 traffic today!

  12. Another 200 this week.

  13. Turn to 300 FM (POINTS) on your Radio Dial Mr Stephen!

  14. 500 thanks to your italicised clue!

  15. Rather than leaving me high and dry, your clue in parentheses gives me Just an easy 500!

  16. 300 ’cause I can escape this Sarca Sync!

  17. Last week I struggled to even score 100. Today’s was far easier. 500 points

  18. 500, love this band (and the song which the 500 clue references — one of the first songs I can ever remember hearing as a kid!) so much!!!

    • Terrific score – and what a fantastic song to have as one of the first songs you remember!

      • Indeed — it’s so beautiful!! My mum would play cool 60s lounge music and REM (and The Velvet Underground when I was a little older!) and my dad The Stones/Doors/Radiohead, I had a good early education in music…

      • That’s a fine soundtrack for the early years, well done!

  19. 400 for me this time.

  20. 500 each for Mika and me
