Ready for Quiz #8

wunderbar!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

  1. I think I only know because I used to own a Housemartins album on vinyl, but 500.

  2. 500, it’s hard to keep your Quentins in order though.

  3. 500. Artist ‘real names’ are fun. Love the penultimate clue. Reminds me of trying to paraphrase an already pithy sentence is first year essays!

  4. 500. Clearly a distant cousin.

  5. 100 points. Not an artist I’m familiar except a couple of the hits

    • Before hearing his 1001 listed albums, that would have described my familiarity with this artist as well!

  6. 400 for me… name rang a bell but the year threw me off. Didn’t think he was as old as that.

    • Nice work HMO – it’s strange, usually with an artist, their look is a key part of their image. But until this week, I didn’t have the foggiest idea what this fellow looked like!

      • He says maybe more of a “celeb” in the UK. Married to a TV presenter for a while.

      • Interesting – in North America, he was big around the time of Moby (who was a familiar face in TV interviews), and a couple of his videos were huge. It’s just that he didn’t appear in those videos!

  7. Got it at 400…is he really that old?! I always pictured this young’un, but I suppose his music was made when he was a young’un!

    • And I’m glad you mentioned picturing him – until this week, I’m not sure if I had any idea what he looked like!

  8. 100. Don’t really know him. No clue would’ve helped.

    • I have a feeling this will be a polarizing week, of either 400/500s or 100/0s, with very little in between!

      • I think you are right on that. I was hanging in there pretty good up til this week.

      • I’m certain you’ll bounce back to the 500 level next week – if not, there’s something amiss with the clue!

  9. 100. F_____S_____ is the clue… F****** S*** is my score.

  10. 400 for me this week… should really have got 500, but I was thrown off by the middle name and age!

    • Not to worry J – it’s funny, usually the date of birth helps in a clue, but it appears he’s one of those artists that it has the opposite effect!

      • I think cause he seemed quite young when the ‘big album’ came out? I dunno… I know the name, but got sidetracked!

    500. Before I read Aaron’s comment, I was going to say that you should have had a clue about him being a member of The Housemartins.

    • Nice work JP – and I’m not familiar with the Housemartins, I’ll have to explore!

      • jprobichaud permalink

You will probably recognize a song or two.

  12. 300 Geoff….always liked any title that has Chemistry in it!
    Call me Quirky!

    • No wonder you did so well on the Oasis week Deke, thanks to their album Heathen Chemistry!

      • Yeah…for sure!
Chemistry by Rush is another one…With Lex taking Biology i played her the Rush track. I think she was puzzled that the lyrics were so crafty and not about chicks! haha…
Plus back when I was in High School that Dolby tune “She Blinded Me By Science” though not my cup of tea i always dug as it had the Quirk thing going on as well!

      • Coldplay’s ‘The Scientist’ jumped to mind as well!

  13. 500 because I know the name, not the age! He looks good for that age!

  14. Zack permalink

    100. Not my best showing.

  15. 500 each for me and Mika. I was hoping I’d finally beat her but no

  16. 400…whoa, I did NOT know that name!

  17. 400 for me. It was the oxymoronic name that got me, I would never have known his real name at 500. Again with the artists that aren’t my bag but I knew enough to do decently in the quiz, Geoff! And I’ll admit my surprise he’s even on the 1001 list (all deference to those who like what he does).

    • And he’s on the list twice!
Nice work on another out-of-your-bag artist Aaron, I think this week’s will be back in your wheelhouse!

  18. 500 for me again. I saw him with his first band, back when the world was young and there were still dragons.

  19. 300 for this week
