Hole – Live through this (1994)
[Album 3/1001]
Listening to Courtney Love & co. 17 years later, some of the songs hold up pretty well.
The singles are definitely the strongest: Violet’s a solid opener, and I’d argue Hole is at their best when the guitars & vocals are clean & clear (Miss World on this album, Malibu later on in the decade).
It was good to hear Jason Bateman/Ellen Page play a bit of Doll Parts in Juno (though their version omitted my favourite part of the song: the nice kick drum/snare hit after the lyric ‘the most cake’). As of yet, I have been unable to find a YouTube clip of the Juno scene to embed. To quote another mid-90’s female, as if!
The rest of the tracks aren’t overly memorable, nothing laughably dated, but certainly sounds a lot like 1994. Not that there’s anything wrong with that of course.
