Ready for Quiz #22?

Everything Counts!

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Artist of the Week #22
Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)

500 points………………..English band, formed in Basildon in 1980.

They have a pair of albums on the 1001 albums list: Music for the Masses (1987) and Violator (1990).

400 points………………..Though perhaps better known for their 80s hits, they also had no shortage of solid 90s/00s singles as well, such as I Feel You / It’s No Good / Dream On.

En Français, they would be known as ‘Hurry Fashion.’

300 points……………………People are People, and I appreciate that the people playing these quizzes adhere to a Policy of Truth when reporting scores.

And when I see the World in My Eyes, it’s generally in the form of equations!

200 points………………..And if you try Walking in My Shoes, you’ll see that I Just Can’t Get Enough of photo clues:

100 points………………..The artist is D__p_____ M____

Answer: (tricky to translate to Arabic, instead, look up trio with Martin Gore / Dave Gahan / Andy Fletcher)

(Please post your points earned in the comments section)

Thanks for playing!

Verbalize the Positive

a) Enjoy the Silence, what a track!

b) I’ve had this post scheduled since early April. When I learned this week that band member Andy Fletcher passed away, I contemplated delaying this quiz.

And then I remembered what Jemaine Clement said on the week that David Bowie died:

“it’s sad to lose Bowie, but it’s beautiful to think millions of people across the universe are listening to his music right now.’”

The same would be apply here: sad that Andy Fletcher is gone & at the same time, encouraging to think of how many people are revisiting his music this week.

  1. 500. Did you already have this written before a member of the band passed away recently?

  2. Harrison permalink

200 please. Got there in the end.

  3. J’ai gagné quatre cent, grâce au français.

  4. 500 for me. Sad news for them this week.

  5. 500 as I have been reading about this guys which is sad but my sister though is a huge fan…

  6. Zack permalink

    500. I had it with the bonus clue.

  7. jprobichaud permalink

    500. Well-timed post indeed.

  8. 400 as I am no longer trusting my first thoughts

  9. 200 points please! I had no idea they were a British band, though!

  10. 500 each for me and Mika. It’s a competitive world.

  11. 500. Everything counts and Basildon was enough, didn’t even need the French clue luckily 😁.
So sad about Andy passing the other day, the quiet man of the group sure but his contribution was notched up to 11. Love this band so much since 1981 when I first saw them on Top of the Pops in England as a lil kid.

  12. Listening to Sarah talk about these guys earned me 400 this week.

  13. 500!! I just heard them at work yesterday. I figured I knew why you were posting this and then you said not, so quite the timing.

    • Well done, Aaron! And yes, that seems to happen frequently with these quizzes. Last year, I scheduled an Adele quiz months in advance & then on the day of, it turns out she was doing a big media blitz for a new album!

  14. May I pick up a retrospective 500 points please?
