Ready for Quiz #20?
Wake Up Everybody!
.
Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)
Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.
Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.
After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.
Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.
I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.
In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.
In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.
Here goes!

I am forever grateful to Former Student / Current Quiz Participant & Friend Devon R for his modification of the lyrics to Smash Mouth’s All Star, when teaching the quadratic formula:
“x equals negative b, plus or minus square root, of b squared minus 4ac
all over top of 2a, that is how you find x, unless you know an easier way
like factoring!”

I’m pleased you paid sufficient attention to the 400 clue, Neil!
300 please.
Nicely done on the Quadratics &/or Sepultura clue, Harrison!

I’m pleased that ’96 album clue helped, Jimmy!
400 for me
Not too shabby, John!
300. I know some math
You never know when the quadratic formula might come in handy, D!
I Do Want More?!!!??! But I can only ask for 500 points please
Best response.
This week could represent The Tipping Point for you, Steve – exemplary work!
Only one of my favourite hip hop acts ever. Full marks at 500 for this guy, please!
Terrific group & work today, Aaron!
Thans! That one was easy for me, I own all the albums!
And the investment in the catalogue paid off!
Oh yes, always worth it, listening to them. I love that they are an actual band too, playing the instruments. Class act all the way.
400. Don’t know them that well but I do know them, which is more than I can say for many other acts of this genre.
I believe it was GI Joe that had the line ‘knowing is half the battle’ – and half knowledge led to a fine score today, JP!
Dang 300 only. At this rate I’m never going to catch that Mars guy now…lol
I guess you will be off the grid today at 12 noon when Sid and the boys hit the ice…
T minus 45 minutes until puck drop, Deke!
Hip hop not really my thing but still know enough to get 400 this week!
Those are good weeks, Paul – when a little bit of knowledge can still deliver solid results!
500. Just happened to know that album title!
And the album title knowledge paid off nicely today, Zack!
500 for me and 400 for Mika.
Narrowing the gap on the scoreboard, James!
400, please!
Well done on the Tonight Show clue, Sarca!
300 please. I like the palindromic numbers sequence!
Bonus question: can you name the band with a palindromic name, and the title of one of their major hits which is also a palindrome?
Delightful bonus question, TVTA!
ABBA immediately jumped to mind – then it took me a while to mull over their big hits (lots of repeated word-titles, but no palindromes arrived right away)
And then I remembered…S.O.S!
You did great! A nice bit of trivia 🙂
I thought I was going to be in real trouble with “American Hip Hop Artist”. But thankfully I watch a lot of TV! 400!
Well watched, Kevin!
500 for me again this week. Im a big fan of these dudes.
Spectacular work, J!
300 points please, Geoff! Man, I should’ve got 400 because I’ve watched clips of Jimmy Fallon a million times, but it took me a while to remember the name of the band.
Not to worry, Lana – I’m pleased the name of the band arrived at 300!
Yeah, I say it’s a decent score. Thanks again for the quiz Geoff!
My pleasure, Lana!
300. Sepultura saved my ass.
I hoped that bloody clue would help!
I’ll update the spreadsheet with these scores for next week
Sweet. As long as I’m ahead of Harrison, I’m satisfied.
