Method Man – Tical (1994)
[Album 699/1001]
Say what you will about Rap: I think 90s rappers had the best similes.
When it comes to comparisons using like or as, nobody does it better.
Not always school-ready examples, mind you.
However, on Tical, Method Man offered up a bunch of similes where to my pleasant surprise, felt like I was the target audience!

Verbalize the Positive
You know those bands with 4 or more lead vocalists (Beatles/Sloan/etc.)?
Do you remember that great feeling that happens when you’ve listened to them so often, you can start to identify which singer is singing on which track?
Thanks to the 36 Chambers group effort & the various guest spots on Liquid Swords / Only Built 4 Cuban Linx / Tical, I’m delighted to report that I’ve reached that level of familiarity with the Wu-Tang Clan!
You are virtually a member of the Wu crew Geoff. Ol’ Teachy Bastard, perhaps?
I can’t top Joe’s comment so congrats on the new gig Ol’ Teachy Bastard!
I’ll have to get that on a business card!
I do like ODB’s sing-song delivery – perhaps I could starting sing-song delivering my lessons!
You may wish to cut down on the profanity and up the profundity levels though.
that’s probably advisable!
That says a lot about this album that the only good thing you good say was that it had great similes. Way to keep it positive like sunshine on a rainy day.
My thanks John – I particularly liked the fax machine reference, 25 years later I’m not sure if that now somewhat obsolete simile would help make his point more or less understood!
Agreed
Most likely my fave Wu member, if you want to know? 🙂
Of course I’d like to know, William!
I think I’d probably pick RZA for his production skills!
I like this one – Method Man at his best.
I was quite impressed by the Wu-Tang business model in the mid-90s, on the 1001 list, they’ve had quite the string of group/solo projects!
I was just thinking that. It must have the Wu debut, Method Man, Ghostface, GZA, Raekwon, and ODB?
36 chambers, Tical, Liquid Swords, and Only Built – I believe a newer Ghostface album is in the newer edition of the book!
Most likely Fishscale, though I’m surprised Iron Man or Supreme Clientele aren’t featured.
And he was on Only Built so often, I think of that more of a duo album!
I think so too. He and Raekwon seem to bring out the best in each other.
