Manic Street Preachers – The Holy Bible (1994)
[Album 646/1001]
Manic Street Preachers are terrible for my critical thinking skills.
An actual street preacher? If it’s someone shouting into a megaphone about the Holy Bible, I’m not going to be easily convinced, regardless of how effective their argument may be.
Because of the delivery, I just can’t bring myself to listen.
However, the Welsh band, Manic Street Preachers? It appears after my experience with their album, The Holy Bible, regardless of how effective the album actually is, I’m very easily convinced!
There’s something about vocalist/guitarist James Dean Bradfield’s delivery that instantly wins me over as a listener.
Because of his delivery, I can’t stop listening.

Verbalize the Positive
This is one of those “can’t believe I didn’t know about them until recently” groups for me.
If I’d known about them in the mid-90s, I would have absolutely adored them in high school – they sound like they could be Age of Electric’s talented Welsh cousins!
I don’t think this band is especially good, but this album is wonderful – just carries through on intensity.
That would make for an interesting 2×2 matrix: good/great bands & good/great albums – this good band/great album would fit neatly in the upper left quadrant!
I imagine Mr 1537 may have a comment to add here, Geoff. I’m in a state of ignorance, I confess.
I was oblivious to their existence until a few years ago – but I’m pleased to be aware that they exist now!
A band I know of, but couldn’t name a song…I can now name an album though thanks to you.
And if asked to name a track – I don’t think I’d be able to name too many. But for a good cause, the albums work so well as complete listens, I haven’t been paying attention to the individual names!
Never heard of ’em.
You may not have heard of their home country either!
One of my brother’s favourite bands for a time (not sure now). I think I’ve mentioned that before, huh? I was never a big fan, but I did like a couple of albums a fair bit (including this one) and thought they were incredible live.
I’ve heard they’re something else in concert – not sure if they ever tour around here. If so, I imagine they’d play a relatively small venue, which would be a bonus for me as a member of the audience!
For sure! I saw them twice during their arena tour days, but reckon they’d be great to see in a smaller venue.
It’s always a treat seeing an artist that plays arenas at home in smaller venues elsewhere – the summer I lived in Glasgow, we got to see Blue Rodeo in a smallish club, which would be unheard of in Canada!
Amazing! A little bit of home away from home, eh? How was that for you?
