Ready for Quiz #18?

There ain’t no use pretendin’!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(Same as last year, feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Verbalize the Positive

Whenever I do some sort of activity where I ask students to choose the “Best” ______ (website, app, etc.), I’m always happy to play this artist’s Simply the Best as the song of the day.

And I’m even happier when they correctly identify her as the singer!

  1. For 500 points, I’d be your private dancer.

  2. 500 and very proud of it.

  3. Harrison permalink

400 please, as Meatloaf put it- The hardest working woman in show business.

  4. 400. I strangely found myself talking about this artist at a recent interview. I didn’t get the job, but the experience was interesting!

    • I wouldn’t have pictured her being the usual interview discussion material!

      • I certainly did not imagine having to speak in her defense in such a personally stressful situation! Bringing Patti Smith into the discussion actually helped me to make my case somewhat.

      • And Patti would likely appear on a future ‘Top 5 featuring’ list for me – love her vocal on REM’s E-Bow the letter!

      • I hope “Don’t Give Up” by Peter Gabriel is also up for consideration!

      • Of course Kate would make a cameo!

      • Yay!!!! I love her 3000!

  5. I wanted the points to take me higher but only 400.

  6. 500. You could have said she shares her name with a successful Swedish rally driver, obscure motor sport trivia fans.

    • and regrettably I already did Talking Heads last year, or I could have said, “their bassist shares a first name with a successful Swedish rally driver!”

  7. 500 points please!

  8. We don’t need another hero… but I do need 500 points. And got them!

  9. 500! I actually Bryan Adams in concert last night…but that isn’t why I knew the answer.

  10. Feeling a little ‘RECKLESS’ but in Side 2 track number 3 Vinyl kinda way! For all u Spotify/Apple Music users out there, that would be Track 8!
    500 Smackers!

    • YES Deke!
Reckless is probably my Exhibit A for why the side 1/side 2 format is essential.
Summer of ’69 is simply not a track 6 – it has to be a side opener!

      • Exactly and while were talking about Reckless how about the brilliant axe work of Keith Scott just not on that one track number 8 but the whole album!
1984 was a huge year for guitar rock!

      • And speaking of guitar duos, Keith & BA pair as well as any!

      • Exactly! Good call!

    500 for me this week.

  12. I’ll take a 300.

  13. 500 for me! Excellent first clue! Was able to impress Sarca with my deductive reasoning today.

  14. 500 each for me and Mika, and let’s assume I made a Goldeneye reference here

    • I think at one point you said Weird Al & Bond clues would be helpful – I suppose this sort of counts!

  15. 500. No bull on the Bullock there! Thanks, and a good one – she’s an exceptional artist!

  16. Oo a lucky guess for 400!

  17. A real page turner this week, Geoff. One of those birth names that, once learned, is never forgotten. Five hundred smackers please.

  18. I didn’t know her birth name but I know that duet! 500!
