Goldie – Timeless (1995)
[Album 635/1001]
“Inner City Life, Inner City Pressure”
– Flight of the Conchords, Inner City Pressure
As I have for the past decade or more, I love Flight of the Conchords.
I anticipate that I will continue to adore them for decades to come.
Given that my interest in them does not fluctuate over time, at least for me as a fan, that would make them timeless.

“Inner City Life, Inner City Pressure”
– Goldie, Timeless: Inner City Life/Pressure/Jah
If you dug Goldie’s debut in the mid-90s, I imagine your enjoyment hasn’t wavered in the slightest, and is destined to continue indefinitely.
Which, for early adopters/longtime Goldie fans, sounds like good news.
But what about those that were uninterested in 75+ minutes of drum ‘n’ bass at the time?
Can one arrive late to this particular party?
I’m not certain such a fashionable appearance is possible.
This wouldn’t have been my cuppa in the mid-90s & I’m not sure if it ever will be.
If listener enjoyment doesn’t vary with time, that would seem to be an unintended consequence of ‘timeless’ music.
And I’m not sure if that’s discouraging (I won’t ever ‘grow into it’ à la Steely Dan) or if that’s somewhat reassuring/humbling (I’ll save on future record purchases as my tastes aren’t as well-rounded as I’d like to think).
In any event, as my Goldie enjoyment level seems to have a consistently equal floor & ceiling, I believe the album name is apt.

Verbalize the Positive
It was delightful seeing FOTC make an appearance on Colbert in the fall!
I like how you made a Goldie post all about NZ music.
Well they are NZ’s 4th most popular folk duo after all!
If a band resonates as a timeless act that indeed makes you a true fan!
And I did go as Bret from Flight of the Conchords for Halloween one year, so I suppose that would help solidify my case as a true fan too!
I love the Conchords! Not so much Goldie. So I fully support the direction of this post. Bret? Present. Jermaine? Present.
To quote Murray, “Item #1” – the support is appreciated JP!
Always loved Murray’s band meetings.
I definitely prefer Flight of the Conchords over Goldie. All day long, any day of the week.
And I’d be happy to enjoy FOTC every day of the week!
