Ready for Quiz #49?
The penultimate quiz of the year!
.
Quiz Rules/Format
(feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)
Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.
Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.
After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.
Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.
I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.
In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.
In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.
Here goes!

Verbalize the Positive
Fittingly (and unintentionally), the Quiz #49 band formed in San Francisco!
500, no sacrifice here.
A supernatural score Neil!
500. I was just talking about how all sorts of weird bands start in San Francisco. Never thought of this one though.
And I always assumed this was a solo artist – nice work Zack!
400, not Smooth enough.
Still pretty smooth though!
500.
Nice work tangerinetrees99 – but did you guess it as quickly as you guessed Iggy last week?!
Unfortunately not quite as snappy haha!
I have a feeling you’ll be snappy with this week’s first clue! 😉
Ooh, I’m intrigued!!
200. I was hoping for a Partridge family tribute.
I guess they would have been from around San Francisco too!
Tricky this week. 200
Nice work Chris!
Tough first clue without an era (well, for me anyway!). But too easy at 400.
Only one on the list surprises me though. The fourth album is high in my Top 100!
Only one, so far, I should say – a friend saw them recently, the lead guitarist doesn’t show any signs of slowing down!
200. Not a great score, but my overall score maybe my biggest accomplishment this year!😁
Nice work Amrita – and I have a feeling you’ll pass the 17000 point mark next week!
400 for me on this one.
Well played!
400 Smackers this week…tricky first question……
Well played Deke – 400 smackers are en route!
Lucky guess bagged a smooth 500. I’m on a roll!
You’re wrapping up this year’s series in style HMO!
Believe it or not, I got it on the first clue. As soon as you said it wasn’t Van Halen… so 500 for me.
I believe it – I thought I’d better put the Van Halen bit in there, as they were easily the first ‘iconic guitarist last name = band name’ that jumped to my mind!
Good call. Although Bon Jovi does come to mind as well…
That’s the one that jumped to my wonderful wife’s mind!
Hahaha! Great minds and all that.
200 today. I should have had it with the album name but I couldn’t make a connection.
Nice work D!
500 again!
You’re on a 500 roll Mike!
Thought of you guys during the leafs/pens game last night, the leafs won this round!
We caught it! Well, she caught it. I was watching a documentary on geology on my laptop but I saw her celebrating the win 🙂
Phil didn’t seem to do much last night. Jen wore he Phil jersey!
I like that – supporting both Kessel and the Leafs, I’d like to see them meet in the Eastern Conference finals, it would be an entertaining series!
It would be, but I think the Pens would take that.
We both like Phil. He wasn’t the right match for the Leafs team at that time, but he’s been pure class ever since. I liked that Phil and Dion Phaneuf never got along. I couldn’t stand Dion!
I think he’s a great fit as the 4th or 5th ‘go-to guy’ on Pittsburgh – when he was supposed to be ‘the guy’ on the Leafs, you’re right, it just wasn’t the right match.
But when the spotlight goes to Crosby/Malkin/Letang/Murray and then Kessel, he’s able to do his thing, and he’s been really effective, especially on the Power Play this season. What a shot!
He’s really awesome. A late bloomer and I think Jen would love to have him back, though I doubt that’ll happen!
200.
Nice work Danica – I’m looking forward to the Dylan event this week!
Me too!
Thrown by the first clue, I’ll take a healthy 400 this week, Geoff!
A healthy score indeed, nice work Aaron!
400 for me please.
For all the ___ of the world, we give you 400 points!
For all the tucked in children of the world?
THat’s the one!
300 for me, 500 for Mika
And an impressive combined score for the household!
Yeah, if we can average that and I can steal her points, that’d be swell
I’ll talk to the accounting dept!
400 for me this week!
Nicely done J!
400. Had no idea they are from California. I thought they might have started a little further south, lol.
I also had no idea that they were a ‘they’ – I just assumed the artist was a ‘he’!
400✌
Nifty work Sarca!
400 points! First clue completely threw me.
Nice work Geoff!
400
Nice work Jimmy!
400 points if you would have but Northern CA I had a 10% better chance of getting it at 500 Oh Well “I can’t sing I ain’t pretty and my legs are thin” so I’ll stop complaining.
A fine score, regardless of singing ability!
200. But I should have figured it out way sooner.
Nice work Jo!
