Ready for Quiz #42?

The meaning of life!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)

For:

500 points………………..Answer to a FAQ asked of this NYC band? No, Mike is not related to Screech from Saved By The Bell. And neither of them is related to Neil Diamond.

.

.

.

.

.

400 points……………….Speaking of Saved By The Bell, the opening line of that theme song wasn’t exactly dissimilar to the opening line from one of this group’s early hits, the universally relatable scenario of waking up late for school (man) and not necessarily wanting to go

.

.

.

.

300 points…………………This trio has a trio of albums on the 1001 list, two of which contain the word ill

.

So how we gonna kick it?

I quite enjoyed my friend 1537’s post from earlier this year, where he acknowledged the only possible correct answer to that question!

  1. 400 surprisingly never having heard a whole album.

  2. Zack permalink

    500

  3. What language are we talkin’ here? 300

  4. Got more points than Jamaica’s got mangoes- but only if Jamaica had a catastrophic harvest of 499

    • Nice work Aphoristical – and nice wordplay, I do hope their harvest is more bountiful than that this year!

  5. 200. Ouch. I like them more than 200….

  6. 500! Yae!

(Also, I second the awarding of the bonus points).

    • Haha, nice work J – 10 million bonus points may even be insufficient to express my gratitude!

  7. 300 for me. Middlin’

  8. Trickier than last weeks. Speaking of school, the NYC group with the hit We’re Not Gonna Take It popped into my head, but clue #3 disqualified them! 300 points today.

  9. I’ll take 200 for today’s effort.

Haha! Got it on the first clue, though I had to think about it. Poor Screech… 500!

    • Nice work JP!
I saw him doing standup somewhere in the ballpark of 15 years ago – he complimented a ‘mullet’ shirt that I was wearing, so I suppose the show was overall a success!

  11. I know whatcha wanna hear! 500 for meeeee! I love these guys, even did a series of all their albums. They were what got my lovely daughter to sleep as a baby. True story.

    • Did you ever drive with the newborn to help put the baby to sleep? If so, I just hope she started to sleep long before you arrived at a certain New York borough!

      • That’s always where we played them, in the car, at 3 a.m., driving around the neighbourhood. There were three deep cuts in the middle of their 1994 album that were essential to her falling asleep.

That was a weird disc, though. It had these guys, Gordon Lightfoot, and Van Morrison on it. Didn’t harm her at all, I figure!

The worst part was, though, you’d drive around for a half hour and she’d finally crash, then when you got home and the car stopped she’d wake up again. Ugh.

      • When our middle daughter was born – I was listening to Jay Z’s the blueprint for the 1001 project. So I remember being out in a similar neighbourhood drive with the bass helping Becca to sleep.
Haven’t tried Lightfoot or Van Morrisson yet, might have to give those a try if the rap isn’t doing the job!

  12. Man I actually nailed this on at 500 as there are not to many Mikes with that last name!
Besides Aaron sent me a few of these dudes discs and I reviewed one of them a ways back…

  13. 300 points. The first two questions threw me a loop as I had to find out what Saved By The Bell was. What did I miss? I’m obviously culturally uneducated. Is it available on DVD?

    • I’m impressed you somehow missed it! I think if you’ve made it this far without seeing the show Geoff, you’ll somehow continue to be just fine without it 🙂

  14. Jordan Richardson permalink

A bit late, but 400 for me. I even had the name from the first question, but a brainfart kept me from putting it together. Oh well, next time I’ll double-check my head.

  15. 400! (Again referencing recent gigs I’ve been to, Blondie played a cover of the song mentioned in the 400 clue when I saw them a few months back – surprising but v good!)

  16. 200 this week

  17. jofrommontreal permalink

That was a nice 500! Even though I had never made the Screech connection before. That’s aa funny urban legend, just like the nonexistent connection between a young Marilyn Manson and Paul from the Wonder Years…)
