Ready for Quiz #31?
Neat!
.
Quiz Rules/Format
(feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)
Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.
Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.
After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.
Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.
I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.
In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.
In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.
Here goes!

Artist of the Week #31
Record POINTS Earned (Not Artist Name) in the comments
(scroll down for additional clues)
For:
500 points………………..Though this English &/or Australian (depending on birthplace/place where they were first successful) pop group has 2 albums on the 1001 list, their most popular recording was deemed ineligible for inclusion as it was a part of a movie soundtrack also featuring other artists.
.
.
.
.
.
400 points………………..As Wayne Campbell observed in Wayne’s World, “I mean, Led Zeppelin didn’t write tunes that everyone liked. They left that to __________________”
.
.
.
.
.
300 points…………………One of their songs is used to teach people the appropriate pace for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); lyrically, it’s also a much more appropriate choice for that usage than Queen’s similarly-paced Another One Bites The Dust
.
.
.
.
.
200 points………………….The band was comprised of brothers Barry, Maurice, and Robin
.
.
.
.
.
100 points………………..The artist is The B___ G____s

Thanks for playing!

Verbalize the Positive
I wouldn’t have thought this group would be the textbook definition of ‘my cuppa’ – but the pair of albums on the 1001 list have been a pleasant surprise!

300. That hint came up in a training class.
I find when lessons are linked to music, it’s much easier to remember!
500. Sunday Night Fever here.
It’s tough to quantify how deep my love is for your comment!
500. I wondered why that soundtrack album wasn’t there. Now I know why.
Still haven’t seen Wayne’s World. Looks like I’m not going get that brag-worthy certificate at the end of the year after all!😁
I can’t recall what all the rules for inclusion were – but performances entirely the principal artist and no greatest hits compilations were 2 of them.
I should probably manage expectations about Wayne’s World Amrita – it’s likely not as magical if you didn’t see many times it as an 11-year-old!
I hope there will be more High Fidelity clues in the future – one that I’ve seen and read many times since I was 11!
I foolishly haven’t read it yet – I checked our library last week and it didn’t have it (it had a few other Hornby novels though).
So I’ll have to invest!
It has a different feel from the film, obviously because it is set in England. But as Hornby put it, the film’s Rob Gordon seems like he’s reading the book of Rob Fleming, if that makes any sense.
You could read other titles by Hornby. There’s one called 9 Songs I think, which you might enjoy. Also recommended is Fever Pitch, though a knowledge about the English football scene is mandatory to make sense of that.☺
Sorry. ’31 Songs’ is the name of the book.
That songs one sounds particularly promising!
500! (Not my favourite but I am Australian…)
Nice! (to both the score and nationality!)
200. Just spicks and specks this time.
And that tune is closer to the era of the 2 albums of theirs on the list, rather than the CPR tune!
500, although I rather wish I’d got it at 300 – outstanding clue and surely the basis for a top 5 tunes with which to perform CPR. “Ice, ice baby…”
Cheers Kid Slender – I’m curious as to what the metronome setting is for those songs!
300.
Nice work!
Oh and in perhaps a bit of poetic justice, I think I might be considered ‘spam’ on your site – my comments keep vanishing after I click ‘post comment’
That is funny. How did you fix my issue? I am trying to find it.
How I fixed it:
– go to your most recent post and click “edit” on one of the comments
– that loaded the ‘classic’ viewer for me, where it showed ‘comments’ in the left menu options
– by clicking ‘comments’ there, it showed me all the pending/approved/spam/trash
and then I just approved your comments that ended up in ‘spam’ and that seemed to solve the problem
Okay, I think I got it. Thanks!! Man, there is a lot of spam especially if wanted Viagra!!
Not to mention all the exciting opportunities to work from home!
That would be nice.
I’m barely staying alive Geoff!
200 this week….
I guess that song lyric is technically ah, ah, ah, ah – but I’ll change it to ha, ha, ha, ha, well played Deke!
200 today for me.
well played D!
200. I know these guys but I don’t really know them. Ya know?
I know – and I still feel like I don’t really know them!
500 (great group). My favourite though is clue 400!!
Haha, it took some restraint to not put the Wayne’s World clue at the 500 level!
Got it at 400 👊
A little Wayne’s World knowledge goes a long way ’round here!
500 for me. I win again!
Exemplary work HMO!
Needed a mental list of contenders then process of elimination, but patience paid off to the tune of 500. I’d probably have their 1st on my list.
I believe it was Axl Rose who said all we need is just a little patience – and it paid off here Bruce!
200.
Nice work on the musical brothers Zack!
100. But when I read the initials, I heard Wayne’s quote in my head!
Many of his quotes are music to my ears!
500 again. I’ll be interested in your reaction to their records Geoff.
You’ve got some good momentum going Geoff!
If it hadn’t been for the Wayne’s World quote, I’d have been at 200 points. But, thanks to Wayne and Garth, a 400 for me! 😉
Also, I didn’t know that about the CPR. Neat!
I am thankful to Wayne & Garth for many pearls of wisdom, well done Aaron!
500! Good laugh at hint #2!
Nicely done, and cheers!
200 too toothy.
So I take it you weren’t defending these guys in a debate recently?!
I do really like some of their early stuff. There is also an excellent mash up with Pink Floyd that I like a lot. They are so eclectic though they seldom need defense for long.
Their early stuff was a pleasant surprise for me this week!
Oh dear. 200 for me this week, but if I’d thought about it a bit longer I really would have walked away with 500.
The question is, what was your caffeine intake before answering?!
It was low, Geoff. Clearly too low.
200 Should have got it on Wayne’s World but it just wouldn’t come to me.
Not to worry – all the more reason to have a Wayne’s World re-watch!
