Ready for Quiz #25?

The ‘halfway-point-of-the-year’ quiz!

.

Quiz Rules/Format
(feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

Verbalize the Positive

Cheers to my friend Dave Hansford for a great quote regarding this artist.

A few years ago, I was reading a magazine that ranked this artist’s Top 100 songs.

When I brought it up with Dave, he said something along the lines of, “was (opening track from Highway 61 Revisited) #1 and the rest tied for #2?”

It should’ve been!

  1. Don’t know the Hootie version but as this is a favourite song from my favourite album by this artist, chalk up 500 sing-along points.

  2. 500. Looking forward to a very nasally week.😁

    • Well done Amrita!
I think of this artist as ‘sneering’ – like the response to the “Judas” heckle, “I don’t believe you…you’re a liar!”
So it may be a very sneer-y week as well!

      • I actually like his voice😉. It gives me hope. Like if you’re a GENIUS lyricist and a considerably good songwriter, you can do it!

      • Oh his voice is definitely part of the appeal for me too – a friend once described him as a great singer who can’t sing, and that’s likely apt!

      • I love that point of view! I’m definitely going to quote your friend from now on!
I think there’s a difference between being a good singer, and having a great vocal personality. Many technically better singers having been covering him from the beginning, but he brings a personality to it like no other. There are other singer-songwriters who are relatively bland, despite being better than him at singing.

      • You know, maybe you should encourage your readers to do an impression of him. Because everyone’s got one. Last year when he got that rather modest award and everyone was talking about it, I heard quite a few impressions. And attempted one too.😁

      • My dad & I were doing Dylan impressions this weekend, it looked like a hard rain was going to fall and we described it accordingly!

      • Ha ha! We’ve been having a hard rain too!
I’d like to see that impression, if it can work into your review somehow. He’s solemnly worshipped where I live, for all the humanitarianism of his work (and because his songs are easy to play), but what appeals to me the most is his humour. I feel like he’s smirking even when he’s being serious.

  3. 500. I’m tangled up in blue, I only wanna be with you.

  4. Beh. 200. He’s shite anyway.

Incidentally, I did declare my 500 score last week but it didn’t seem to have been included in the leaderboard. Get yer act thegether!

    • HAHAHAH best answer right there…took words from my mouth 😉

    • Hahaha!

    • I think HMO should be awarded a bonus…..perhaps a Saxon mystery artist down the road!

    • ohoh! you’re in trouble! lol

    • To quote Britney Spears, oops I did it again 😀

I can’t find your comment HMO – I dug in the trash, spam (found that 2loud2old2music was incorrectly classified as spam, I owe him a few weeks worth of points!), I can see you ‘liked’ it and so it made no sense that the comment wasn’t there.

My act is in the process of getting together – expect the excel spreadsheet to be updated with 500 points & at least 500 apologies!

  5. Jordan Richardson permalink

    500, yo.

  6. Only 200. An artist I’ve never got into, except for one supergroup he did two records with.

  7. 300 for me, but it doesn’t matter since my comments don’t work on your site anymore as you have missed the last 5 weeks or so of my scores.

    • 2loud2oldmusic!
Sorry – it appears your last few weeks got filtered to spam, my apologies.
I un-spammed your comments from quiz #23, #24, #25 and those are the only ones I could find (any older ones may have been automatically deleted already).
I’m not sure how you ended up being considered spam?
But I’m glad you’re back to being not spam, thanks for your patience!

      • Well that explains it. I have been called worse than Spam. I wasn’t going to win anyway, but i was wondering why I wasn’t getting scores. One time I when I entered the comment, it immediately disappeared and I kept entering it and the same thing would happen. I was confused. Glad it is resolved. Thanks…btw…my score should be around 12,000 now right??? 🙂

      • I imagine you’re somewhere in that ballpark!
I ended up being considered spam a year or two ago with that same vanishing comment thing happening – I eventually emailed a few people I knew and they confirmed that I was in their spam folder and kindly marked me as being Un-spam!
I emailed wordpress (they were quite helpful) and eventually it got resolved across the board.
Have you been able to comment normally everywhere else?

      • As far as I know, you are the only one I have had an issue. I have been ok everywhere else…I think. But I will l keep that in mind if it happens again. Thanks.

  8. 500! Not too familiar with Hootie, but I love that song (and the album it’s on).

    • Well played J!
I haven’t listened to the album in a few years – I remember really liking the opening track and Idiot wind but apart from enjoying the album, I can’t recall any of the other track names!

      • Dig it out, Geoff. It’s one of my favourites.

      • Dug out last night – only got through a couple tunes in the car (disappointingly(?), not enough traffic at night, my commute was too short to hear more!)
But it’s off to a strong start 🙂

      • Sometimes, just sometimes, you wish the commute was just a wee bit longer, eh?

  9. 400 as Hibbing is just outside of Ladano’s fav U.S City Duluth!
If it wasn’t for that clue this would have been a bad week! hahaha

    • I think you had the home field advantage this week Deke – you probably win the prize for being closest to Hibbing!

  10. I spent a truly unmemorable hour in Hibbing once and once only, 500 for me thankfully.

  11. Tangled Up In Music permalink

    500. I’d be mad at myself for any lesser result.

    • I was going to say Ovidiu, given your url, I had a feeling a 500 might be your score this week!

      • Tangled Up In Music permalink

I like reading all the clues even if I guess it from the first one. Nice work.

      • Cheers Ovidiu!

  12. jprobichaud permalink

    200. Tough clues this time. For me, anyway.

    • It’s funny some weeks I think it’s too obvious and everyone gets 100, others I think it’s too cryptic and the 500s are flying around – I blame the quiz maker!

      • jprobichaud permalink

Yeah. Hang the DJ while yer at it.

      • Hang the blessed DJ? Because the music they constantly play says nothing to me about my life?!

  13. Some may call BS (or a pee test) but this is a 500 for me. Only because I own the album on which Idiot Wind resides! 🙂

    • I have heard no demands for performance enhancing tests this week so far – I think people just realize why they call you Mr. Books, well played!

      • Whew, that’s good. Hope it stays that way…

Hm… maybe Mr. Books AND Mr. Records (Sometimes)?

  14. Zack permalink

    300. This one was tough.

  15. 500 cos you don’t need a weatherman to know which way the idiot wind blows.

  16. Peter permalink

    100. I got really excited when I began reading the first clue – my brain was screaming: “Hootie and the Blowfish!” Only to realize that was part of the clue. Then it went downhill from there. He’s one of those artists I know next to nothing about. Maybe I’ll start with Highway 61 revisited.

    • No worries Peter – surprisingly, Cracked Rear View isn’t on the 1001, I still quite like that album!

  17. A cool 500.

  18. 400 points today.

  19. 500 points….I’m constantly haunted by the horrible “iiiiiiiiidiot wind” off “Blood On The Tracks”. ugh nails on the chalk board for me I’m afraid.

  20. 500! Yeah, weren’t they sued too?

  21. 500! Great album!

  22. 500 for the week
