Artists of the week (so far): Brian Eno, U2, Stevie Wonder, Everything But The Girl, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits

My thanks to all who have participated in the “Artist of the Week” quizzes so far.

Congrats to all those who correctly identified Tom Waits last week.

Here are the results after 6 quizzes:

Ready for Quiz #7?

Y’all ready for this?

Quiz Rules/Format
(feel free to skip to the quiz if you know the rules already)

Your Task: Name the mystery Artist, ideally with as few clues as possible.

Correctly guess the artist on the first clue? 500 points.

After scrolling down to the second clue? 400 points.

Still don’t know after the fifth clue? 0 points, but a crisp high-five for participating.

I’ll use google translate to put the correct answer at the bottom in Arabic (if you read Arabic, that’s fantastic, but no cheating by reading ahead!) and you can translate it back to the language of your choice to confirm your answer.

In the comments, please enter your POINTS earned (not the artist name) and I’ll keep track of the running totals in a spreadsheet.

In addition to eternal bragging rights, the winner at the end of the year may even get something as prestigious as a digital certificate.

Here goes!

500 points………………..A folk-rock supergroup whose eponymous debut album was released in 1969

300 points…………………As a nod to this music trio, a possible Team Canada forward line combination at the 2010 Winter Olympics was Sidney, Eric, and Rick.

200 points………………….All group members have been inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, both for their contributions to this trio and also to The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, and The Hollies.

Thanks for playing!

Verbalize the Positive

I appreciate that many bloggers do specific day of the week posts – on each site, it’s a nice tradition that I look forward to each week!

Got 500 this week. Woo Hoo!

  2. 0. Drat. Like electronic duo week, I went in a completely different direction, with another supergroup from the late 60s (ELP). I don’t know if you enjoy these wrong guesses I keep sharing. Oh well.

Really easy this week, Geoff. Most people worth their ‘rock’ salt should do well.

    • Not to worry Amrita – I anticipate you’ll be back to your usual high scores next week.
And yes – I appreciate when people share their guesses, interesting to hear what other names jump to mind. ELP may resurface before the week is done!

      • I’m guessing in a Top 5 Supergroups list?

      • That would be more logical than the Top 5 I ended up making – but to modify a Tina Turner line, what’s logic got to do with it?!

  3. 500! I hope you educate your kids competently.

  4. 500 for me too… despite having no idea what the Canadian winter sports clue refers too. I must however take the opportunity to share one of my favourite Simpsons moments…
Barney Gumble: “David Crosby! You’re my hero!”
Crosby: “You really like my music, huh?”
    Gumble: “…You’re a musician? “

  5. 200 for me… not a great score. But I am getting closer to the full set!

  6. 200 as well…..

  7. Should have waited til morning and not looked at 11:20 pm.
    400 for being dozy.

    • 400 is still more than respectable – though it feels like there should be bonus points if sleep is put off in favour of responding to a quiz!

  8. 500! My first official one I think!

  9. 400! The 400 point clue was awesome btw!! I didn’t get the hockey reference one though.

    • My thanks! The Hockey one was a bit of a stretch (as the middle name’s not quite right) but it made for a catchy forward line at the time, congrats!

  10. 500 boom! I’m back, baby! 👊🍾

  11. 100. Thanks for the cool reference to the Olympics!

  12. Haha man I’m a smokin’ these quizzes lately.

    500 up!

    400 for me!

  14. A 400 for me this week.

  15. 500 with a lucky guess, confirmed by the 400 mark, not sure how you grade that.

  16. Throw down 400 for me, Geoff! Yas!

  17. Sadly I only scored 300 here as I immediately thought of Fairport Convention…forgetting that their debut was released in ’68…so I wasn’t prepared for the second clue. D’oh. I’ve done this kind of thing before which gave me a sense of deja vu. 😛

  18. 400 points for the week
