Top 5 “Z” Artists
You say Zee, I say Zed.
Either way, here are 5 of ’em!
—
.
5. Zombie, Rob
Can’t say I know a great deal of his solo stuff but Dragula was undeniably catchy.
.
.
3. Zutons, The
I quite enjoy the saxamophone on their debut.
.
2. Zappa, Frank
With ‘Mo’vember mere days away, I’m talking about Zappa ahead of schedule!
.
1. ZZ Top
I wasn’t sure whether to give the title to these guys or Zappa. The tie went to the group with longer beards & a Back to the Future III performance.

An early Zed-Zed Top record is on the calendar for tomorrow, enjoy!
And a brief word for The Zombies, Warren Zevon and Joe Zawinul (Weather Report).
Weather report’s “Heavy Weather” is on the list, as is the Zombies “Odessey and Oracle”
Agreed: can’t have a Z category without Warren Zevon
With 3 votes so far for Zevon, I’ve got to check him out, thanks!
I’ve never heard of Zuckerbaby…then again, 1998…I was totally in a different headspace then, and my interest in Muchmusic and current music was dropping off around that time.
There have been much better eras for popular music than ’98 – ’01!
The top 3 of Zutons, Zappa & ZZ Top zounds good to me. I also like Rob Zombie but he would just miss my Top 5 behind Zebra, Warren Zevon and The Zombies.
I also have a record by a group called Zee which was a synth-pop album featuring Pink Floyd’s Richard Wright. Not a lost classic but something I had to hold on to as a mega Floyd fan.
I’m not familiar with Zebra or Zee – but thank you Rich for reminding me to start compiling all the fellow-blogger recommended artists from this series!
You can skip Zee but Zebra is highly recommended. Best described as an ’80s version of Zeppelin meets Yes.
Zappa and ZZ – that’s all I need.
A formidable 1-2 punch!
Zombies and Zappa, 2 must have “Z’s” for sure. Perhaps the underrated ZWAN effort needs a little recognition?
Ahh forgot about that – the only tune I heard was “honestly” and I enjoyed it. I started to have a difficult time separating the artist from the art as Billy Corgan sometimes doesn’t make himself terribly likeable
That’s an understatement!
I echo recommendations of Warren Zevon. As a Texan, also, I must agree with choice of ZZ Top. OK, and as a Cannonball Adderley fan, I second Joe Zawinul.
Zevon it is, not sure how both the book & I have missed him, but this oversight will be rectified soon enough!
Can’t believe I missed this, must have been catching some Z’s 🙂 – Anyway – Zappa, Zevon and Robert Zimmerman is as killer a trio as there is—Happy New Year!
And I can’t believe I forgot Zimmerman – he would have been #1 for both my D’s and Z’s!
