The Kinks – The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society (1968)

October 24, 2012

[Album 107/1001]

The Kinks are the Aaron Eckhart of the British Invasion.

Aaron Eckhart?  You know, the actor who played Nick Naylor from Thank You For Smoking, Harvey Dent from The Dark Knight…oh that guy, he’s good!

As are The Kinks: Somewhat unheralded, yet familiar and respected, who’s that group again?  Oh yeah, I like them!

There’s nothing flashy about the songs but they are always enjoyable and I look forward to putting on Kinks’ albums.  This is their 3rd of 4 records from the 1001 list and despite relatively concise song lengths, the album titles are anything but.  Such as this 8-word entry & its follow-up, Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire).

However solid the tunes, alas their fate may be that of Aaron Eckhart’s: great at what they do, not quite reached top-of-the-mind awareness yet.
