Run DMC – Raising Hell (1986)

August 12, 2012

[Album 80/1001]

If you’re looking for an album to thank (or blame) for the fusion of rap & rock, here it is.

My lone complaint reminds me of the 1955 version of Doc Emmett Brown from Back To The Future.  When Marty kept saying ‘heavy,’ Doc was baffled, “There’s that word again, heavy.  Is there something wrong with the earth’s gravitational pull in the future?”

I’m often curious with hip hop from the 80s:
– Did the listeners not look at the album cover before putting the cassette in their tape deck?
or
– Did listeners have dreadfully short memories, they’d hear one song, forget who they were listening to, and need constant reminders?

As was the case with Queen Latifah’s All Hail The Queen, very few songs go by without a role call of MCs and DJs involved!

If you can get past all the boastful name checking, it’s a stellar blast from the past.
