Jeff Buckley – Grace (1994)

April 26, 2012

[Album 43/1001]

In a word, Grace is a mess.  But what a mess!

Mojo Pin starts things off, never really finding a consistent tune or time signature;  much like the other 9 songs on the record, it is unpredictable and it gets better with every listen.  I’ll also join the many who contend that his version of Hallelujiah is the ultimate interpretation.

However diverse and unique the rest of the record may be, it doesn’t get much better than the title track.  Outstanding song.

It’s tough not to have mixed feelings when listening to an artist who’s no longer with us.  On one hand, the legacy is safe.  On the other, especially considering the strength of Grace, it’s a tragedy that his career will be forever incomplete.
