The Kinks – Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire) (1969)

Do you:

A) Struggle with objectivity when it comes to groups from the British Invasion?
Based on Arthur, The Kinks aren’t quite ready to be part of the ‘Beatles or Stones?’ debate…but they’re not far off.

or

2) Love songs that are slightly ridiculous yet slightly fantastic?
She’s got a hat like Princess Marina is a bit of the Beatles’ Piggies/Lady Madonna mixed with the Foo Fighters’ For All the Cows, with plenty of Harpsichord.  Fun.

or

D) Wish to hear what the members of Blur & Babyshambles were probably listening to when writing some of their best work?
Chances are Damon Albarn and friends were familiar with this album before Parklife; Pete Doherty likely heard Victoria once or twice before composing French Dog Blues.

If any of the above applies, then you will quite enjoy this record (as I did).  Bonus marks if you recall what the a,2,d sequence is from!
